Reminded me of Lenny and he didn't even need any AI to waste a lot of scammers' time.

Our record at the office was 47 minutes. FORTY SEVEN MINUTES keeping a scammer on the phone till they hung up. We never laughed so much at work in all of twenty years. :D

I once applied for a job that precisely matched my qualifications. It was crazy - the job description could have been written by someone looking at my CV.

I didn't even get an interview. Likely no one did.

It wasn't a ghost job, though. It was a position created for a someone they wanted to hire. Being a public institution, they were required to advertise positions. That didn't mean that they actually wanted any of the candidates who applied.

I've had a similar experience for a local job. I honestly thought it was my previous employer unknowingly reaching out to me initially through a recruiting agency. The job description was verbatim my resume. Got the interview, and ghosted.

If you are a software dev, have a masters, have DB knowledge and can write scripts, you should look into non-tech companies.

I am a fullstack dev, and can solo support and write software for a mid size company. We plan on getting a junior or another dev soon. We will definitely be paying a junior minimum $60k+ and expect nothing but learning first year. We are in a MCOL area, so this is about average. WLB is good. No on-call.

I would hire someone with more experience, and even with FAANG experience but I would be worried they would leave a job that only pays $100k in the next FAANG hiring cycle.

Maybe we need a job board for devs who are trying to get out of the tech space and work for nontech, trading top salaries for flexibility and relaxed work environment.

This is EXACTLY what I'm looking for after 20 years experience. 100% willing to trade top salary for a life.

The fundamental question is how to monetize AI?

I see 2 paths: - Consumers - the Google way: search and advertise to consumers - Businesses - the AWS way: attrack businesses to use your API and lock them in

The first is fickle. Will OpenAI become the door to the Internet? You'll need people to stop using Google Search and rely on ChatGPT for that to happen. Will become a commodity. Short term you can charge a subscription but long term will most likely become a commondity with advertising.

The second is tangible. My company is plugged directly to the OpenAI API. We build on it. Still very early and not so robust. But getting better and cheaper and faster over time. Active development. No reason to switch to something else as long as OpenAI leads the pack.

My guess would be using "AI" to increase/enhance sales with your existing processes. Pay for this product, get 20% increased sales, ad revenue, yada yada.

Tangential: As an American, one of the things I liked most about London pubs when I first started visiting in the ‘00s was the lack of screens, which were hard to escape in American bars. Unfortunately this was only temporary, as the majority of the London pubs I’ve seen on recent visits are covered with screens like home.

Stay away from sports pubs/bars.

> The system has wing-like vertical airfoils that create a vacuum effect, drawing air behind an internal propeller to produce power, BMW explains.

So not really motionless.

This reminds me of that Dyson "bladeless" fan - it's not bladeless at all, the fan is just hidden in the base.

Motionless to the environment and observers is the point here.

Oh, some of those are the _worst_. My wife bought a car, and the dealer had gone beyond the usual decal and license plate holder, and had put an insert in the third brake light. E.g., every time she touches the brake, it's flashing this dealer's name. Clearly, this was not going to fly, but I was amazed that they tried.

Wow, that's pretty insane. Never seen that before!
