The comment links to OnlyOffice, which is a different app suite from OpenOffice.

I appreciate the correction; I misread that. Thanks.

Issue is, the WPS office suite is more bloated with ads than even Microsoft's offerings are, and, overall, is quite a doozy to navigate.

If you want a true and good alternative, I'd recommend ONLYOFFICE[1].

OpenOffice is no longer actively developed. It was replaced by LibreOffice quite awhile ago.

Thanks, I also hate it when I encounter websites that block VPNs.

I couldn’t see a purchase link anywhere. Too lazy to check, they potentially lost a customer due to this UI.

There is no purchase link. It's an announcement for an early 2026 release date.

I don't think there is anything ambiguous about it. How else are they going to "personalize" their services, if they don't consume your personal data?
reciprocity · 3 months ago
The parent comment has a point. A layperson (or at least many people not read into this topic) isn't going to read the language in that privacy policy and come to the conclusion that "any private web page you ask Gemini about will be dumped into our training data". The text on Google's privacy page could absolutely be made more explicit.

I have to say it’s quite entertaining watching this from not the US.

It really isn't. It's destructive and short sighted behavior based on incoherent dogmatism over any motivations for thoughtful and more restrained policy decision making. His motivations for any action is based on flattery and ego that stretch the boundaries of multiple universes. It's so crazy how much blatantly unconstitutional stuff he's gotten away with.

The day windows become "Online-Only" OS will be the day i move from Windows for good.

With how much worse the experience of using Windows has gotten, why wait? Many hills have already come and gone. This is the hill you're willing to die on?

I am shocked, shocked I say, at discovering the US Supreme Court engages in politics! I got bad news for you friend: it always has been. That, or maybe you’re one of those knaves who thinks it’s only fair when your side gets to rule.

I don't think you read his comment for comprehension. Whatever prompted your response does not follow from what the parent comment said.
reciprocity commented on Ollama's new app   ollama.com/blog/new-app... · Posted by u/BUFU
Eisenstein · 5 months ago
Sure, those are all difficult problems. Problems that single devs are dealing with every day and figuring out. Why is it so hard for Ollama?

What seems to be true is that Ollama wants to be a solution that drives the narrative and wants to choose for its users rather than with them. It uses a proprietary model library, it built itself on llama.cpp and didn't upstream its changes, it converted the standard gguf model weights into some unusable file type that only worked with itself, etc.

Sorry but I don't buy it. These are not intractable problems to deal with. These are excuses by former docker creators looking to destroy another ecosystem by attempting to coopt it for their own gain.
