What a beautiful story. Thank you for sharing! As a mechanical engineer with barely any knowledge or inclination towards coding and/or finance you persuaded me to look into the game.

While this looks simple on the surface, what I've found is that there's a missing component to what you describe: the effect sugar has on the perception of satiety: when I eat sugar, I always have a hunger-like feeling, which incites me to keep on eating. I don't get this with sweeteners.

This happens with sugary drinks, but also with solid food, such as cake.

Sure, once you see your weight go up, you can adjust. But adjusting is difficult, and I think this is a contributing factor to the weight problems people have.

chewonbananas · 9 months ago
That's because not enough of the hormone leptin (feeling of satiety) gets created when you ingest sugary foods.

You’ll be back. LibreOffice is so visually gross it’s pretty hard to use.
chewonbananas · 10 months ago
It's not as bad as it was 5 years ago. It's closer to the flat office design.

Don't underestimate the stresses, struggles, and conditions people are dealing with in life that make tasks difficult which may seem trivial to you.

There was a 6 month period in my life where 3 slices a bread per day and cup of tea per day were all I could afford. When that ran out it was cornflakes and tea. Last week in the month was just tea. I had this novel idea of crumbling some bread, mixing it up with water to create a paste and then applying the paste to the 2 remaining slices. That was my Sad Bastard Menu.

I've been using hackernews as a great alternative to reddit. When they shut off compact reddit I completely moved to HN.

Whenever I hear the words 'left' and 'right' and have to act on them, i slightly twitch the corresponding arm or foot, and then can orient myself accordingly.

I "know" where my right arm is and I can feel it instinctively (as a right handed person, it's my main, default arm). But apparently my brain cannot map those words to directions in the outside world until it establishes a positional relation to my own body. I used to be ridiculed as a child for not knowing left from right until I developed the twitching trick.

chewonbananas · 3 years ago
I've done this for such a long time, one of the first times was at the eye doctor, when they test your vision with the symbols on the walls. Some of those "E" symbols were pointed in all directions and the hand twitch was so helpful. Thank you for sharing that tidbit!

I just realized that after unsuccessfully trying to load it for the last 4 minutes. What a sad day this is.

What I've seen from all the AI lately is a lot of vague uncanny valley images that somehow don't fit. They're too perfect and even when they try to be imperfect it's too intentional.

I found out if I tie the scarf around my face with the knot at the back of my neck, so the scarf covers the front of my face (mouth/nose/part of ears) and the loose ends loop around and get tucked between my jacket and my chest - I've been infinitely warmer since!

Hollywood doesn't know what winter is :P

chewonbananas · 3 years ago
I've been tying my scarf like that for quite some time! Haven't seen anyone else use it like that, though.

It was easy for me after enough hours playing, IIRC I had a ~100M record... must have the record file anywhere.

Actually I have the game installed in Windows 10, but I no longer play it. I lost the aim in the central targets that give endless extra balls.

chewonbananas · 3 years ago
How did you install it on win10?
