I have loved split ergo boards since childhood. Several years ago I found the sp111 board and truly think this is my endgame. I am right handed, so a southpaw numpad just makes SO much sense to me. Plus I use it for gaming so it's like a built in gaming macropad.

I also have a kinesis advantage 2 with some insanely nice switches, but never use it just because of the learning curve.

I’ll just say that I bought a kinesis advantage a few years ago and did not like it due to the learning curve. But after trying a couple other ergonomic keyboards, and then coming back to the low force, kinesis advantage 2 LF, it’s now the only keyboard I want to use.

Reading reviews of this type of keyboard is really interesting to me because their use is such a subjective experience. I have found that the glove80 has far and away the most comfortable thumb cluster for my hands as well as the most comfortable positioning for my pinkies.

I couldn’t make the corne variants work because tucking my thumbs hurt. The ergodox is too big. Even a keyboard like the ZSA Voyager just doesn’t fit me right. However, the glove80, running a 40 key layout that I’ve come up with after doing a fair amount of heat mapping my own keystrokes, gets rid of all my hand and wrist discomfort. My only complaint is what a hassle it is to haul around.

The only “wisdom” (hard earned) I would pass along is:

- Make a heat map of your keyboard over a few days to see what keys you need.

- tweak your layout to make it easy and comfortable to get to the keys and key combos you use.

- remember you do NOT have to use every key!

It’s why i read HN through rss. My rss app lets me filter based on keywords in the subject, so i can filter out the nth post about the incremental updates to commonly used models. If i don’t have control over the feed, i cant read this site.

You first have to convince me that it makes sense to (1) do any adjustment in the first place, the adjustments are not reality, and (2) that the chosen adjustment method is the correct one.
