No loyalty nor generosity in the game business. Everybody out for a buck. Eat or be eaten. I think that summarizes it?
tree3 · 5 years ago
Hmm? It sounds to me like there is a lot of generosity- Take Two poaching a lot of engineers, offering them nice bonuses. The employees are the ones winning in this story

Shouldn't all countries be working together openly on fighting the pandemic? Given that it's hurting the whole world.

Companies across all countries have proprietary data that they are using to develop treatment options.

I agree with JRE leaving YouTube over the censorship but I disagree with him moving exclusively to spotify for following reasons:

1. Spotify was the one who conspired with Facebook, Apple and Google to ban Alex Jones and others. So if Joe is moving off of YouTube because he doesn't like the censorship, he's not getting anything better with Spotify.

2. Currently, Spotify doesn't have video (except album cover clips which occasionally show up). I prefer JRE's video format instead of audio. Think of Elon smoking weed on video vs on audio - very different. Seems like Spotify might be adding video later in the year but until that happens, we don't know what we will be getting.

3. "Exclusive" deals in the podcast world is bad. Podcasts were supposed to be platform independent audio files. Making things exclusive is going backwards.

4. Spotify is not available in many countries.

5. Spotify's desktop player isn't the best imo. Their web player is only for audio so far, so they need to make major changes.

Spotify actually has video already, which they used for music videos. Although it seems like they removed it fairly recently.

As evidenced in this epidemic, epidemiological modeling is either not very good or overconfident. I mean, all models are wrong, but theirs have also been useless. Why trust a model if you can do a serology study instead?

> Why trust a model if you can do a serology study instead?

Because studies require a lot more time and money, while a model is just on a computer and can be constantly and quickly updated as things change?

0.024% is 9,100 people.

https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/populati...

Figure 8 you can highlight the age group (0-45) and get a summary figure: 37,980,275 people aged 45 or less * 0.00024 = ~9,100

I'm not sure I call something like 10,000 dead a highlight.

tree3 · 5 years ago
Herd immunity will kick in around 70%, so the actual people that would get it is not 100% of the age group.

> I'm not sure I call something like 10,000 dead a highlight.

Given that people before were saying the death rate was 2-5%, yes, it is a good thing.

I find it really strange that people in this thread are trying to be mad about a low death rate...

Just a note, but this is a perfect time for companies to lay off low performers without getting a lot of flak. This is usually the case when you see companies lay off people while continuing to hire as well.

True, but GM and other auto makers aren't selling cars right now. They are impacted severely

I think it's important to point out that the conclusions are definitely still the same despite the lowering of trading costs since 2000.

Trading is hazardous to your wealth, period.

Which is solely due to the extra cost of short term capital gains tax.
