  magick convert IMG_1111.HEIC -strip -quality 87 -shave 10x10 -resize 91% -attenuate 1.1 +noise Uniform out.jpg
This will strip ALL exif metadata, change the quality, shave 10 pixels off each edge just because, resize to xx%, attenuate, and adds noise of type "Uniform".

Some additional notes:

- attenuate needs to come before the +noise switch in the command line

- the worse the jpeg quality figure, the harder it is to detect image modifications[1]

- resize percentage can be a real number - so 91.5% or 92.1% ...

Not meaning to be obtuse, but to what end, and how is this related to the linked post?

I assumed that the blue colour would be from internal bleeding (venous blood being apparent at the skin level), but:

> Diphenadione is a vitamin K antagonist that has anticoagulant effects and is used as a rodenticide against rats, mice, voles, ground squirrels and other rodents. The chemical compound is an anti-coagulant with active half-life longer than warfarin and other synthetic 1,3-indandione anticoagulants.[3][4] ... Rat poisons with diphacinone are often dyed bright blue to signal toxicity.[8]

Venous blood isn't blue.

I vaguely recall that there was a time when cellphone companies were required to provide free 911 access. People that only wanted a phone for emergencies were advised to get one and not pay for service because it could still dial 911.

Has been true for as long as I've had a cell phone (coming up to 30 years).

Expats aren’t double taxed but you need to file tax returns to offset taxable income that’s already been taxed. There are specific agreements to avoid double taxation but it’s unclear/unlikely the IRS are just going to hand back money Apple already paid (it likely falls outside of what’s required in those international agreements).

Companies, and people, make decisions based on the tax laws of the day eg deciding to work in the UK, Ireland or the US. States shouldn’t be able to simply retroactively change the tax rules and take money already earned and already taxed.

If they can do it to Apple, why not to regular citizens?

Expats are absolutely double taxed, just less so (and to be clear - majority cases not at all) when a DTA is in effect.

They already have a tiny instant search engine which shows 1 result of a url at top.

I’d say its pretty accurate and impressive 95% of the time to the point im impressed at how good its suggestions are considering it’s just the top 1 search.

Funny you're showing up as downvoted, but this is absolutely right. Apple is testing their search abilities with URL autocomplete and it's surprisingly good. It's gotten much better in the last 6 months in particular.

So what if it's not new? That doesn't really make it better. An author rewriting another edition of his own work is not the same as deceptively presenting an unoriginal work as being genuine.

I'm answering the musing from the person I replied to:

It is hard to me to understand how much this revisionist tendency is just a recent invention and to what extent it has been present throughout the history.

For the most part, I can see old books on bookshelves are still unedited. But maybe some other books have been completely destroyed due to not being acceptable to future readers/powers?

But I really hate it. I dislike when people do not understand that moral and social norms change over time and you can't blindly apply your current views to historical people who were brought up and lived in a different world.

I am pretty sure people in some distant future will think about us as heathens for eating meat, driving cars and wearing plastic. I hope they will be wise enough not to cancel us complete for this and hear out other wisdom we might want to pass.

timcederman · 2 years ago
It's not new. Books have been getting revised for decades now for newer sensibilities. (e.g. even the Hardy Boys was revised more than 60 years ago to sanitise it - https://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2019/01/re...)

There was recent controversy about Roald Dahl's books getting revised (and he said himself 'change one word [in my books] and deal with my crocodile'), yet he also made revisions in his own lifetime for the same reason (https://www.forbes.com/sites/danidiplacido/2023/02/21/woke-w...)

The author might have had better luck by using an external storage device to boot the Mac and delete unneeded files on the internal disk from there:

Use an external storage device as a Mac startup disk https://support.apple.com/en-us/111336

Was surprised to learn that with Apple silicon-based Macs, not all ports are equal when it comes to external booting:

If you're using a Mac computer with Apple silicon, your Mac has one or more USB or Thunderbolt ports that have a type USB-C connector. While you're installing macOS on your storage device, it matters which of these ports you use. After installation is complete, you can connect your storage device to any of them.

* Mac laptop computer: Use any USB-C port except the leftmost USB-C port when facing the ports on the left side of the Mac.

* iMac: Use any USB-C port except the rightmost USB-C port when facing the back of the Mac.

* Mac mini: Use any USB-C port except the leftmost USB-C port when facing the back of the Mac.

* Mac Studio: Use any USB-C port except the rightmost USB-C port when facing the back of the Mac.

* Mac Pro with desktop enclosure: Use any USB-C port except the one on the top of the Mac that is farthest from the power button.

* Mac Pro with rack enclosure: Use any USB-C port except the one on the front of the Mac that's closest to the power button.

> Apple know full well that this is not a mass market product.

I really feel like too many people are ignoring this. If anyone understands how to play the long game with a new product it is Apple. I mean the Apple TV was a "Hobby" for many years.

Has Apple ever put out a "Pro" version of a product before the "normal" version?

I think it also helps the clear sharing of technology between this and other products. From using the M2 tech, to iOS and (I assume) built with much of the AR tech they have been showing off for the last several years on iPhone.

I honestly kinda wonder how much of ARKit was directly made from work on the Vision Pro?

This version of Vision Pro was never going to be a massive product, I expect they knew they would get returns (and they hoped to mitigate that with the in store demos but that only does so much). But it is setting the ground work for a long term investment.
