It's pretty easy to understand why Apple doesn't want its models to reproduce racial slurs, but what’s wrong with "Boris Johnson?"

(See, e.g., here: https://github.com/BlueFalconHD/apple_generative_model_safet...)

Interesting that you picked one from the “B” words..

Always has been, nothing is new.

You can't say fuck on tv, but you can say fudge as a 1 for 1 replacement. You cant show people having sex, but you can show them walking into a bedroom and then cut to 30 seconds later and they are having a cigarette in bed.

Now after the influence of TV and Movies ... is Vaping after sex a thing?

My kids watch streamers on YouTube and the common replacement is “frick”. It’s said so often that they started using it saying things like “what the frick!?” so I had to explain to them that’s essentially the same as using the real word.

This story reminds me of how the original owners of the Highland Mint (they make the coin for the Super Bowl coin toss) were swindled out of their company.

Re-read the full context. He said they spend "the majority of their day high". That's a "very serious" addiction, because their dependence of the drug is erecting defenses in the conscious mind to the denial of the reality that they probably can't stop. On the contrary, if for example I need to take an SSRI to keep depression at bay, I would be perfectly content to tell you that I had a major depressive disorder, and that the drug helps me stay functional - I'm diagnosed, treated, and aware of the fact. Also contrarily, if I smoke a joint every Friday night with my wife after the kids go to bed because we want to relax, but if we can get a baby sitter we'll jump at the chance to go out for a night on the town without weed, then I'm not addicted - I just use the drug situationally because it's my preferred option.

Would you say the same thing if we're talking about caffeine? I know many productive members of society that spend all day drinking coffee. They would even suffer actual withdrawal symptoms if they tried to stop.

I would say the same for myself. It doesn't interfere with my work performance, and I tell myself it's better than if I were drinking or whatever, but it has definitely become a compulsion and I basically can't regulate my usage if I have it available in the house. Lately I've gotten a little timed lock box to force myself to take breaks which I'm kind of ashamed to have to resort to, but it's helping me keep a better balance.

I will also say - and maybe this is more self-justification - but while I definitely cannot really do focused productive software work while stoned, I really do think that it puts me in a more creative mind-space and helps me see alternatives I wouldn't otherwise. I often go for a long hike after work and get stoned and stumble upon an approach to a work or life problem that's bouncing around in my head that I would not have otherwise.

I found that with the pens/oil I have no self restraint. It's just too convenient and easy to take a quick puff anytime I would feel stressed, bored, etc. Whenever I get an oil cartridge I smoke it every day until it's gone.

Lately I switched to gummies only. It helps because I need to be more deliberate. For me they take an hour to kick in and last a few hours after that, so I know I'm making a conscience choice of whether or not I want to be stoned for the next few hour.

It looks like where you went wrong was replying with a screenshot of your calendar. That and the likely passive aggressive text accompanying it was probably a red flag for Jacob. The fact that you posted this drivel vindicates him.

I listened to an interesting podcast about how the first every Duty Free shop was started in Shannon airport.

My biggest frustration with the WFH discussion has been that the vast majority of people say that the #1 (and sometimes only) reason they prefer WFH is to save time on the commute. But this has not led to any discussions on how we can actually improve the commute, improve housing policy so people can live closer to work, etc.

Instead, people have simply decided that theh will WFH instead, an option which isn’t available to the majority of workers, who are generally not as privileged as the people who can WFH.

The next step will be all the WFH people who are almost certainly significantly higher earners complaining about having to pay taxes towards improving commutes and public transit which they don’t even use, so gradually public transit will get worse and/or more expensive at the turnstile, making life even worse for the largely underprivileged who don’t have the option to WFH.

The push for WFH has been approached entirely from an individual perspective, which will result in further separation between the privileged and the rest, a further rise in inequality, a further increase in social disunity and a further destruction in community.

It didn’t have to be this way. We could have approached WFH in a much more community oriented way, having people WFH but simultaneously investing in making the lives of those who don’t/cannot WFH easier as well, through investing in better public transport, etc.

I actually enjoy my commute. About 30-35 minutes each way. Gives me time to listen to a podcast and mentally separate my work and home lives.

There are also different kinds of jobs at different companies. Some jobs are basically "wait around until something explodes, and then all hands on deck" - the IT equivalent of firemen, for example.

Those jobs certainly have a fun "club" aspect when hanging around the firehouse waiting for disaster to strike; and that aspect is gone when everyone's working from home doing whatever.

This is an excellent analogy. I've been struggling to understand why I feel like I'm one of the minority that (like OP) isn't really in love with WFH. You just described my motivation in one simple sentence.

Dressing as a nurse and offering people injections doesn't mean you're a nurse.

In fact, I'd be willing to bet that few nursing associations would look kindly on offering people unprescribed snake oil injections outside of a medical context and with no knowledge of their medical history.

Why would you find it hard to believe Joe Rogan has an actual registered nurse RN working for him? Not like he can't afford one.

My wife currently works as a nurse at a hospital. She's tired of the poor working conditions at the hospital so she's applying to work at an infusion center for better hours and pay.
