I built my ideal laptop... 4TB storage, the 5070, all the mods I would need, and it comes to $4000+ :(

My ASUS ROG Strix cost me $1500 back when the 3080's were new and has a 3080. Have prices risen that much?

Storage is expensive at framework. I bought the storage for my 16 elsewhere and it was substantially cheaper.

I had a script that would rotate my profile picture in Slack by one degree everyday. It take a surprisingly long time for people to notice.

If you do happen to land on a fandom wiki, replace "fandom" with "antifandom" in the url for a better experience.

The main problem I have with modern desktop environments is the lack of scriptable automation... I really hope they build something like this.

Although I could just save all dotfiles, configs and extensions via file backup, I always struggle to create a script based setup.

I would love to maintain a list of extension names, settings etc and have something like:

  gnome-extension install --config-file my-extension-config.txt
  kde-plugin install --config my-plugin-config.txt

  gsettings set --config-file my-settings.txt
just a little more reliable... Maybe a hard problem, but I think this would be great.

Export settings would also be great.

  gsettings export --to my-settings.txt
:-)

It's probably overkill for what you are trying to do. But I have been using home-manager [0] as a way to quickly restore my working environment.

I’m listening to “The Big Con” by Mariana Mazzucato and Rosie Collington. This book discusses the state of CONsultancies (EY, KPMG, McKinsey, PWC, Atos, and so on.

Such a worthwhile read. Whatever you expect, it’s worse.

I'm currently reading through "When McKinsey Comes to Town" in the same vein. I recommend it!

Are there any real alternatives to Stripe?

Obviously Adyen if you're in EU, PayPal/Braintree, etc, but Stripe is really the big kahuna.

What about building your own with Authorize.net? Are there any old-school gateways like that left out there that are still independent?

(can one do payments in the 10-100$ USD range on the blockchain? What if you don't want to go through an exchange?)

The is also Mollie [0] if you're in Europe. It's more comparable to Stripe than Adyen if you're just accepting payments in my experience.

Ace & Tate

Beloved by hipsters all over Europe

Free eye test, glasses around £100 a pair

I personally love the clip on shades which have made summer actually enjoyable

I will second Ace & Tate. I have three pairs, two of which have a clip on. Very happy customer.
