seany commented on Accepting US car standards would risk European lives   etsc.eu/accepting-us-car-... · Posted by u/saubeidl

As an American living in the Netherlands with a larger family (especially by EU standards, with 4 children!), I think I see a slightly different perspective.

Here, owning a car is extremely expensive - perhaps one of the most expensive in Europe. This price goes up considerably when you get a larger vehicle, both because fuel costs are very high but also because you are taxed quarterly for CO2/weight of the vehicle.

With a larger family, you are squeezed into an uncomfortable position since you are outside of the <= 2 child norm. Many 7+ seater vehicles (French cars, etc) are extremely impractical to the point of me thinking that they are not actually designed for more than 5 seats in use, as there is comically low cargo room and the 3rd row is extremely cramped (try fitting a stroller or anything besides people...ha!).

I ended up picking up a Chrysler Town & Country import from the USA for my family, because it was the only vehicle that I could find for a reasonable price that checked all of the boxes, and am paying dearly for it (400+ euros every quarter just to have the privilege of registering it!).

Before you say anything about us having a "kindercrusher" we also have 2 bakfiets cargo bikes and use them regularly, but public transit and bikes don't scale well to large families for anything more than a short distance ride (school, groceries, etc).

Large families are being squeezed out of existence here.

We just did this in the States. Family of 5 with a malamute that likes to road trip to places and do active things (read as, we need luggage space). In the "not crazy expensive" range was some mini vans, and suburban sized vehicles. Ended up with a Ford excursion max.

Now we just need to drop the phone number requirements and signal would be "done" for all practical purposes

It wasn’t just from that [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Susana_Field_Laboratory] had 4 of their 10 experimental nuclear reactors melt down (including a big one in ‘59), and was notorious for not disposing of nuclear and chemical waste correctly. Including burn pits.

They had fires in their plutonium ‘hot lab’ at least once we know about.

They regularly burned radioactive waste in open pits.

It’s right next door to Hollywood and many common film shooting locations. John Wayne regularly worked in Simi valley which is right next door.

Also, smoking like a chimney. Also, the whole nuclear bomb test/downwinder stuff too of course.

It’s not just direct exposure either - thyroid issues are common in the generation that grew up when this was happening, and many of them drank milk, ate cheese, etc. from cows grazing on grass that got this contamination on it. Including from Simi valley, where it was a big industry.

Nobody likes to talk about it because good luck quantifying it at this point - and the gov’t does a lot to avoid blowback succeeding. National Security and all.

It doesn’t help that the governments own radiation death models put the population wide cost at several hundred thousand lives lost population wide. But LNT doesn’t really work. But also, clearly there are issues.

Like the 9/11 first responder funds, it’s a nightmare trying to get a pay out, and unlike 9/11 this isn’t from one single event.

To be fair this is a north america problem.

The rest of the world is on WhatsApp and doesn't even know what RCS messaging is.

But here in North America,we like pain.

You can mirror a slog... l2arc doesn't need a mirror because the data is already on disk. I believe a split metadata can also be mirrored.

You can dump any vdev you want in a special. I have 2x 3 way mirrors in both of my nas boxes right now

What is the “best” fridge to get now? Like, say a standard American fridge with a stainless steel door with a freezer compartment, just for food (no tech, screens, ice making or water dispensing nonsense).

Really any option that has true dual compressors is going to be fairly solid. We just got a Bosch 800 and have been quiet happy with it

I thought there are almost no incentives for DIY. Any incentives usually come packaged with go through licensed contractors, who usually charge 10X more than DIY. This is what I've observed with most federal, state, city, utility incentives.

The fed tax credit ones are just part of your normal filing with the IRS (5695). The state ones vary

I also do similar work and have run tests on many models. I have listed a few here with sample images using one prompt with a single run. I know it isn't a comprehensive review like OP, but it's something. My personal preference through experience is epicRealismXL.

Is there anything like this comparison for nsfw images? I'm married to a boudoir photographer who sometimes wants to use ai tools for things, and they are all _awfull_ if there is nudity on photos. It's like some sort of neo puritanism has taken over.
