This is one of my favorite history podcasts. Does anyone have any recommendations in a similar vein?

I'll chime in with History Time.

They could make Chrome experience deliberately bad, if you believe they're not doing that currently.

Well, personally I use Firefox. Although I do have a suspition that Google has found some way of keeping Firefox experience on mobile inferior in some way. Just speculating.

Would Google also be able to negatively influence such an app if the app was a PWA? Publishing PWA on Play Store might still lead to the same outcome, but what if it is just an independent PWA and is "installed" through the phone's browser? Of course you would loose some discoverability though, but are there other disadvantages? (provided the app is even feasible as a PWA)

Can someone provide a ELI5 for this?

the banks have too much cash and not enough collateral (typically bonds). The FED lends them the bonds for one day (reverse repo) so that their books look ok at the end of the day.

How do I get the old style of tabs back? I need every vertical pixel I can get.

There is also browser.compactmode.show set to true that will allow compact density. Unfortunately that won't reduce the padding around bookmark entries. For that can go to https://github.com/black7375/Firefox-UI-Fix/

Setting browser.compactmode.show to true in about:config allows for setting density to compact again. But unfortunately the padding around bookmark entries remains huge.

rbx commented on German draft proposal would subsidize smaller firms to enter 5G market   politico.eu/article/germa... · Posted by u/DyslexicAtheist

I am going to put it in the most blunt, politically incorrect and frankly offensive way: I don't want my communications to touch any Chinese services, hardware, applications or processes. This is what my gut feelings are. I have surveyed over 200 suppliers in China, I've got zero trust in their professional ethics.

EU should develop its own infrastructure for communications. No one would hesitate to use German communication infrastructure because it's reasonable to expect strong ethics and professionalism. It's completely opposite with Chinese companies. Really. This is a broad generalization to help navigate. Of course there are exceptions, many, in fact. I find it totally ironic that the CCP is recently cracking down on low level corruption in mid-sized firms in China (a good thing), while ignoring their own deeds.

Wild speculation: this draft proposal would favor smaller chip makers that have been acquired by China. https://www.datenna.com/china-eu-fdi-radar/

When the XDR came out it was competing with monitors that were 40,000 USD and up. (With some compromises like the stand which is just an art piece and the viewing angles being squiff). If the competition is now priced competitively then that’s very good for consumers.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtd7UzLJHrU Comparison with the 40k display here. Apple doesn't come very close. Sure it's much cheaper. But then why compare.
