I used Linux for a long time (since ~2002), but for the past years I've been daily-driving a MacBook.

I'm now switching back, and will likely go with either Gnome or KDE. I've used XFCE, i3wm, etc. for years before – and briefly tried Sway too before I switched to Mac – but from what I've read it sounds like the "big" DEs make life easier post-Wayland.

Anyone want to share why you currently choose KDE over Gnome?

I find that Gnome opiniated workflow can easily get in my way. KDE feels more natural and it really grew on me after using it for quite some times.

If policy makers were smarter technocrats, they would know that passive cooling film technology exists now and can cool surfaces below ambient by rejecting sunlight and having high thermal emissivity (unlike metallic reflectors). Add this everywhere to reduce A/C and lower urban heat island effects.

It’s basically performs optically like snow. Paint doesn’t work because it gets dirty too fast, films can incorporate anti-fouling tech.

Delivery companies are already putting these on their vehicles (look at the top of UPS trucks in the US, if there is a giant white rectangle, that’s it).

AFAIK the top of UPS trucks are mainly translucent just to allow light to shine through, so that you don't have to light up the cargo part of the truck. The cooling part doesn't seems too effective.

Where can I read more about the sketchy boards hosted by the admin?
nargek · 2 years ago
As stated by Le Monde[1] Kohlchan was hosted on OvO Systems, which was owned by Vincent Canfield. If you can't read the end of the article due to the paywall, you can use the reader mode of Firefox. You can also see that cock.li is hosted on OvO Systems on the footer.

cock.li is a pretty good E-Mail/VPS provider from what I heard. From their homepage:

> How can I trust you? You can't. Cock.li doesn't parse your E-mail to provide you with targeted ads, nor does cock.li read E-mail contents unless it's for a legal court order. However, it is 100% possible for me to read E-mail, and IMAP/SMTP doesn't provide user-side/client-side encryption, so you're just going to have to take my word for it. Any encryption implementation would still technically allow me to read E-mail, too. This was true for Lavabit as well -- while your E-mail was stored encrypted (only if you were a paid member, which most people forget), E-mail could still technically be intercepted while being received / sent (SMTP), or while being read by your mail client (IMAP). For privacy, we recommend encrypting your E-mails using PGP using a mail client add-on like Enigmail, or downloading your mail locally with POP and regularly deleting your mail from our server.

Also, there's this quote from /g/:

Administering a mail host is sort of like being a nurse; there's a brief period at the start when the thought of seeing people's privates might be vaguely titillating in a theoretical sense, but that sort of thing doesn't last long when it's up against the daily reality of shit, piss, blood, and vomit.

Now that I think about it, administering a mail host is exactly like being a nurse, only people die slightly less often.

--------------------------------

They also publish all emails/call recordings when dealing with law enforcement on their transparency page.

Ah yes the alt-right paradise. "@hitler.rocks" and "@nuke.africa" are really nice domain to have :) The administrator of cock.lu also famously hosted with oVo systems some more than sketchy boards.

Is IA French for AI? (Like UE and many other abbreviations)? I could look it up but might as well ask the question.

Why do you need a safe sandbox to view a phishing site? Afraid the site's design could hypnotise you into entering your credit card details?
nargek · 2 years ago
Multiples reasons actually.

1. To bypass your corporate proxy (ok, not the best reason);

2. urlscan also allows you to pivot easily and find the same phishing kit as they have a nice database of scans;

3. urlscan also allows you to see the website from different proxies, which can be useful if there is geofencing.

It isn't that simple and threat actors are far from being dumb :)

Straight from the link :

> Excuse me, is it "duct" or "duck" tape?

> I mean sure, "duct tape" and "duck tape" are both fine. "Duct tape" is the more common name today. The older name is "duck tape" after the duck cloth under the adhesive.

Nice! That's almost as much as Switzerland has (The Swiss trail system totals 65,000km): https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schweizer_Wanderwege
nargek · 3 years ago
The GR are only long trails, and there are in fact 70,000 km, according to the French federation.
