mikrotikker commented on Israel committing genocide in Gaza, scholars group says   aljazeera.com/news/2025/9... · Posted by u/novateg

per a couple of articles [0][1]

- only 28% percent of members voted

- virtual discussion for resolution prior to voting was cancelled

- didn't allow dissenting opinions published on list serve

- The association has recently expanded its membership and there are little qualifications to become a member. The association had been mostly made up of scholars, but now includes figures like activists and artists,

- if somebody reads actual resolution, it reads like fine collection of tiktok videos.

This seems to happen a lot from what I've seen. When I saw Al Jazeera I already knew it would be biased.

I helped her get started with endeavourOS.

She has me for tech support though and she’s a dev which helps.

I would go with popOS or Ubuntu if the tech support isn’t an option.

Wife is not technical at all. Put her on Ubuntu when she freaked out about her windows 7 PC updating automatically to windows 10. She been on it ever since.

This is a very "Don't do this" kind of situation but you can force the computer to switch to a different law by pulling circuit breakers for certain instruments. Typically though it will happen automatically when the computer detects sensor failures.

Changing the law of the aircraft is something you REALLY do not want to do. It's a "The Airplane broke real bad, do that pilot thing!" situation. Especially on a fighter jet with relaxed stability.

https://www.airliners.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=748133

Some fighters have an "EFCS" switch which will switch laws. This can be used during "I'm going to fly into the ground" or "I'm losing this dogfight" situations. Typically this means you are going to be scrapping the airframe soon one way or another.

This is why New Zealand's police recruiting ad[0] a few years back was so brilliant. They used humor to intentionally de-select this "warrior cop" mentality, and emphasize public service instead.

Surely you want to select for warrior cops especially in a place like the USA to be able to handle things like school shooters and violent meth heads?

Is it better to hire a diplomat and make them a warrior or hire a warrior and make them a diplomat? When lives are on the line id choose the later tbh.

It is instructive that we are seeing the results of DOGE's work:

"The process took six hours Saturday night — much longer than it otherwise would have, because the threat-intelligence and incident-response teams have been cut by 65 percent as CISA slashed funding, Rose said."

Why isn't this under a branch of the military? Get lots of funding then. Protects national security

If the whole point is to enable them to bomb Hamas and not bomb civilians, why did they bomb so many civilians? This is prima facie absurd.
mikrotikker · 2 months ago
They didn't bomb so many civilians. Their collateral damage is actually the least in modern times and modern wars. Its just sad that sometimes the terrorist planning to kill thousands is standing in a group with 10 civvies.

i think what contributes the most to my sense of dread is the feeling that if you were to tell these decision makers in govt right now "but this'll kill people!" they'd respond "good"
mikrotikker · 2 months ago
I guess they're looking at that $20 trillion in debt and saying "if we want to survive war with china we need to cut the fat and pour everything into war r&d, if we survive the war we can think about climate change again". That's my most optimistic interpretation of it.

The UN Special Rapporteur for the Palestinian Territories has concluded in a pretty comprehensive report that there is a genocide occurring in Gaza. https://reliefweb.int/attachments/f78b0a28-c3af-44ed-a010-9b...

The same UN that supported Hamas in it's war on Israel and persecutions of gazans?

I have to say, these warnings are byond any logic I can comprehend. It it not like Hamas does not get these warnings. Obviously they moved aswell. Then again, was this intended by Israel? So in the end nobody can trust these warnings. They are pointless.
mikrotikker · 2 months ago
Yes I dunno what the term is but it's common to telegraph ops like this. US did the same in Yemen and they see a) civvies moving away from munitions storage areas b) terrorists trying to move munitions to safety. It can inform of new targets

Just like several months ago, “we advise Gazans to move to southern Gaza as operations intensify in the north”.

Within days: “Israeli bombing of southern Gaza intensifies 80%”.

mikrotikker · 2 months ago
You don't understand military ops. By announcing like this they can see the Hamas operatives expose themselves as they start moving, preparing like little ants and bomb them - not civilians.
