Lots of respect for the asahi project. Soon you can run what is subjectively the best operating system on the objectively best built laptops.

Yes, as soon as NixOS will have native support - I will be buying an apple laptop. The Asahi people are doing a fantastic job.

That’s a rarity. Wikipedia sometimes has IPA pronunciations and even – once in a blue moon – audio snippets that I trust far more when I don’t know the language.

YouTube has content farms that produce 30s clips for “how to pronounce <any word under the sun>”. YT used to be a good option before the content farms took over, now I hear some ridiculous pronunciations just for the sake of the clicks and the ad views and can’t recommend it any more.

The accent is not great, but the pronounciation sounds good to me.

Please forgive my ignorance, but how do you pronounce Hodów?
mateuszf · 2 years ago
You can use google translate - it pronounces it correctly - https://translate.google.com/?sl=auto&tl=en&text=hod%C3%B3w&...

Well, questionable original source aside, just went on a rabbithole in wikipedia reading about it. Or do you consider wikipedia also propagandist?
mateuszf · 2 years ago
I'm not saying that the article is untrue. I'm not a historian. What I'm saying is that all content from this source should be treated with high skepticism.

As a Polish guy - I would not trust a single thing shown in the national propagandist TVP television.

It's really weird to see this on Hacker News.

How do you get that software out of your console ?
mateuszf · 3 years ago
No idea, that's why I'm asking :)

I guess there may be ways to do it not really legally by some hacker and then sharing it with others.

Not that I support it, but there are still people who don't see problems with such behavior.

Having very briefly looked into this problem a few years ago, my impression of the primary challenge was that of re-implementing a large OS API surface in a non-infringing way.

Looking how some emulators just ask users to copy firmware / software / keys from their real consoles - couldn't the same thing be done and only the hardware layer be emulated?

I'm wondering - heard that PS3 architecture is so complex, and PS4 is back to x86 - so what is it that makes PS4 emulators so hard to implement?

Surely nowadays hardware such as 7000 ryzen series and 4090 gpus are leaps and bounds above PS4 hardware.

How do you replace a mouse with it?

Is it with a touchscreen or knobs on the side?

I think I would still miss a mouse for precision and speed with that ..

mateuszf · 3 years ago
It has a touchscreen, two joysticks and two touchpad likes surfaces, you can configure them how you like.

However the screen is 7 inches and text in games like this or early Fallouts is too small for me, so I planned to use SD for them but resigned.

It's not fair to reduce the role of Windows to an advertising tool. It's also a spyware.
