Interesting tool but the main problem with BlueSky is that I get barely any interactions/reach compared to Twitter/X.

It is all about which "circles" have migrated. A lot of the people I follow have reported that while having a lot fewer followers, they have a lot more interactions - and a LOT less bot-interference.

Working on a virtual file system with Dokana (C#), to enable a cloud-backed storage solution in the video editing space. It is kicking my ass.

I throughly enjoyed reading the entire story. However I found it strange he sort of ended with “they searched for the car and asked us to leave.” The first one they got thanked profusely. But at no point did the author ever claim to have definitively found the car or the body. It’s humble but almost oddly so. Anyway great story.

Finnish people are typically quite humble and don't invite a lot of attention.

I use YouTube Premium 90% of the time now for this reason. All the remixes and other indie mixes that I listen to are on YouTube and YouTube has so much more that I find it a hard value proposition to beat.

Slightly off topic, but where do you go to find this now?

Man that video of the lava from the airplane looks gorgeous. The Reykjanes Peninsula has the best eruptions! Picturesque but without the threat of pyroclastic flows killing everything in sight.

Are there volcano eruption chasers in Iceland like there are tornado chasers in the US? Seems like it would be a rather intermittent but exciting hobby since it's easier to get quite a bit closer.

The Icelandic Civil Defense is also awesome. They have some guidelines for gas heater use during eruptions that includes: Remember other heating options, such as cuddling under blankets, wearing the wool socks gifted to us at Christmas, and closing curtains over windows.

There is a fair bit of "eruption chasing" going on. People want to see it up close.

I lived in Iceland in 2010, when Eyjafjallajökull erupted and stopped most of the air-traffic in Europe. I was fortunate enough to go with some friends (in jeeps with very large tires, to traverse a snow-covered glacier) to see the eruption up very close. We were about 200m from the erupting lava. Most amazing nature-experience of my life - by a mile.

I like it. I of course was running through all kinds of scraping scenarios… which is why you got the app done and I didn’t,

Is BFCM a well known acronym? I get that it’s about Black Friday but can’t figure out the CM and don’t see it written out anywhere

klausjensen commented on Some Pixel owners still can't dial 911 during an emergency   androidauthority.com/psa-... · Posted by u/vpt

When my OnePlus 8T lags, I sometimes press the power button a few times, because I'm impatient and I'm trying to get the screen to turn on.

Pressing the power button 5 times dials the emergency service number by default, so I've almost called emergency services a few times already. I usually manage to cancel it before it dials, but wow.

klausjensen · 2 years ago
Just tested on pixel 7a.

When I click the power button 5x, a screen appears with:

- A large circle in the middle of the screen, which I have to press and hold for 3 seconds to initiate the call.

- A slider to cancel the screen entirely

So just hitting the powerbutton 5x does not actually make the call on Pixel 7a, just makes it easier.

Germany and Russia.

klausjensen · 2 years ago
Outrageous!

The army of USSR just took a field-trip to Poland to protect Soviet minorities!

They then rounded up about 22,000 Polish military officers, took them to the Katyn Forest outside of Smolensk for a lovely picnic - as a show of good will.

How these thousands of Polish officers ended up in mass graves with bullet holes in the back of their heads remains a mystery.

The "Russia had to attack because of NATO" thing confuses me. Lots of people intelligent enough to e.g. write for Foreign Policy, seem to not be able to give a clear reason for this being the case, but still strongly believe it.

This article links to some NATO official "admitting" this was the case, when actually it seems to be someone pointing out how stupid a reason this is in a second language i.e. "you don't like NATO on your border so you invade a neighbor, which gives all your other neighbors a good reason to join NATO, that's dumb".

But apparently that's the best evidence he has that he was right alone along and it's all NATO's fault.

klausjensen · 2 years ago
Russia is also downsizing military presence along NATO borders.

Norway - down to 20% of pre-2022: https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/russian-forces-near-nor...

Finland "border almost undefended"- : https://www.ft.com/content/f7587dc3-3518-4084-b68a-1dd00ab83...

It was never about fear of NATO. It was about expanding the empire - and feeding a autocratic dictatorship that needs a common enemy and distract from the absurdity of having the maybe the country richest in the world in natural resources - and yet a large portion of the population doesn't have indoor plumbing, while an oligarch-elite murders opposition and flies helicopter to get to their super-yacht...
