buttcoinslol commented on Colombia is considering legalizing its cocaine industry   vice.com/en/article/epdv3... · Posted by u/lxm

The difference is that cocaine use is only really harmful to the user whereas murder obviously involves a third party.

You also have to consider the impact of the policies themselves. Cocaine prohibition may reduce cocaine addiction but it also creates legal issues for cocaine users that are often more harmful than the drug itself in addition to creating the space for a criminal blackmarket to exist and thrive. On the other hand, murder prohibition reduces the number of murders and is generally considered to be worthwhile.

Incorrect, it harms the families of addicts and the victims of crimes perpetrated to buy more cocaine, to name a couple externalities of cocaine use. This goes for alcohol, heroin, etc. I've been an addict and seen the damage that my use caused to others.

That being said, I think cocaine/heroin/meth should be legal and cheap, with drug counseling intake services offered at places that sell them.

All "profits" come from regulatory credits. Even then, there's plenty of aggressive accounting going on. It's arguable Tesla has never been profitable and still isn't.

I'm sure the S&P 500 committee took note, they decided not to include TSLA in the index, which I am thankful for.

And those enhanced unemployment benefits expire next week, so far the Senate and White House are wanting them ‘means tested’, so it looks like they may fall off without renewal.

If they don't provide an extension, they lose the Senate and the White House. Trumpvilles, etc. I doubt they will gamble like that.

I see a lot of doomsday predictions, but 4 months in, I’m barely seeing any signs of a protracted recession. Everyone seems to be doing okay, and when bars and businesses open up, they are jam packed. Am I the only one that is seeing a disparity between the speculations vs what I’m seeing around me? I truly believe we are in a crisis situation but why aren’t I seeing more signs of these doomsday predications?

Perhaps the trillions of dollars of stimulus money that has been distributed has something to do with it? Or maybe the generous unemployment benefits the federal government has passed out over the past four months to ensure people could pay their bills and purchase things to stimulate the economy?

Without those things we'd be in a completely different scenario. Things may get worse yet, we're not exactly winning the fight against COVID-19 in the US.

This is tough because I don't want to straw man them, but I'm not sure I've ever heard a hardcore libertarian really argue that their policies would be better for the whole of society.

Generally it seems like they think that minimal government leads to better results in a social Darwinism or "get rid of the parasites" sense.

I've also never really seen them seriously recon with the question of what you do with people who cannot compete, and at some point I feel like that crosses the line into intellectual negligence.

Again, I don't want to try to demonize the other side and I really wish I could think of a good example, but I really cannot.

It absolutely is intellectual negligence, and there's nothing wrong with pointing it out. The standard answer trotted out is "charity" which is disingenuous at best, and completely impractical at worst.

There's nothing wrong with pointing out the logical flaws of people who secretly wish they were feudal lords or a pater familias in Ancient Rome, and wildly overestimate what their position or level of success in a theoretical 'Libertarian Society' would be.

Cubicles were an especial hypocrisy. They cost more per office than carpentered walls. In which case they made no sense at all.
buttcoinslol · 6 years ago
Offices cost more than cubes. An office needs a door, ceiling, lights, lighting control, sometimes a sidelight (window), floor/wall finishes, HVAC, along with a couple receptacles and a data opening. This costs more than an 8x8 cube.

They're just some risks, we could also say: - Local drug dealer knows where you live and cut /threaten you - Local drug dealer can find out a lot about you, and mess with your job or family etc - Local drug dealers often always have cut or non pure 'product' - Local drug dealers from what I've read and seen, are much more likely to fuck you over than drug dealers on DNMs
buttcoinslol · 6 years ago
Why would a drug dealer want to inflict violence on you????

Can a post office generally open random packages under the guise of intercepting drugs?

I would very much hope not.

buttcoinslol · 6 years ago
It depends. First class mail needs probable cause and a warrant since it may be private correspondence [0]
