The arguments in this comment section have been rehashed so many times on HN now it is becoming hilarious. Who would have thought that office vs remote is the emacs vs vim of the 2020s.

Not sure if you know, but at least life in Sweden is pretty close to this. Contactless payments are everywhere (Apple/Samsung/Android pay) and the app “swish” works great for sending payments to people. Even some businesses have a swish QR code displayed in lieu of taking cash payments.

The brilliant thing about wechat (or alipay) is that they don't have a close affiliation to the banks. And therefore far less transaction fees.

When I saw "large", I expected >10GB. And "big data" if it needs to be batch processed or distributed processed.

You can argue either way. dividing by n is the maximum likelihood estimator, but dividing by n-1 is the unbiased estimator. Depends on what you like. Most people prefer unbiased estimators when they are available.

Asymptotically, all the same. If sample size is small, it's a bad estimator anyway.

I love htop! I hope homebrew gets it soon. Mine only says version 0.8.2.8? I donated $5 to the developer. Thanks for htop

For Firefox users, I recently did the following: follow the instructions here http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=8494865&sid=37... and run SpeedyFox, which on Mac is I think just a SQLite cleanup tool.

But, it made a huge difference. Deleting all of my history older than six months pegged one of my CPUs and made FF unusable for about 20 minutes, but that, deleting all my cookies, clearing the recent download list, removing a couple of rarely/never used addons, and running SpeedyFox seems to have helped a lot. So speedy now.

Not having standard ports would be pretty annoying -- at most offices, there are lots of power adapters left in common areas (I think at CloudFlare it's all MagSafe w/ MagSafe2 adapters, or MagSafe 2, and I've tried to make sure they're all 85W; outside of tech, I've seen Lenovo 20V the same way).

Having HDMI out built-in on the rMBP15, vs. needing to carry a mdp/tb2 to whatever dongle all the time, is a plus too.

USB 3 A ports are probably a minimum for me.

If I wanted no ports at all, I'd just use the iPad.

I don't think I could deal with OS X 10.10 on less than 16GB, either.

Maybe apple wants to sell more Macbook Pros. Current Macbook airs are too good for everyone. People has less intensive to buy higher ends.

As for all the too-good-to-be-true Xiaomi products, you have to enter a lottery draw before you can actually buy one. The chance of winning is pretty slim.

You can easily find a all new resale with 10% more on Taobao. It is still a reasonable price. You can consider Xiaomi outsources retails.
