Schinken_ commented on Quill OS: An open-source OS for Kobo's eReaders   quill-os.org/... · Posted by u/Curiositry

From what I gathered the (germany centric?) available "Tolino" eReaders are just a rebranding of Kobo (or the other way round). So depending on the model the OS should also run on Tolinos right?
Schinken_ commented on Show HN: App that asks ‘why?’ every time you unlock your phone   play.google.com/store/app... · Posted by u/jarko27

Congrats on a useful and popular app! It sounds like something that could really help a lot of people.

Now, I really don't want to come across as smug or anything, but I'm not one of the people this would help. I already use my phone in a consciously controlled manner and I don't do things like endless doomscrolling. Despite, it's clear from the evidence that a lot of people do and would benefit from this app. So I'm really curious... what is that like? What goes through your head when you grab the phone, see the app, and then decide to put the phone back down? If you realize at that point that you don't actually want to use the phone right now, why did you grab it in the first place? I'm not insinuating anything, I'm genuinely just curious.

Schinken_ · a year ago
I am also not a doomscroller but a frequent "let's check if something new is happening" leads me to randomly picking up my phone regularly. It's almost automatic by now. Middle of work? "Muscle memory" sort of grabs phone, unlocks it, opens emails, messengers. Nothing new? Just close.

TL:DR;: For me (not a doomscroller) it's sort of automatic to check my mails and messages. Not thinking much while grabbing the phone

Biggest red flag is Manjaro rather than any other distro. But it remains to be seen whether it will be a Steam Deck killer or not.
Schinken_ · 2 years ago
I feel like Manjaro is approaching some hardware companies and offering some sort of patnership.

Minisforum is also exclusively(?) marketing Manjaro for their MiniPCs (besides Windows of course).

Schinken_ commented on Why do some people feel tired all the time?   bbc.com/future/article/20... · Posted by u/devonnull

For a few people I know, it was thyroid related.
Schinken_ · 2 years ago
I was diagnosed with thyroid problems (hashimoto) when I was around 18. Now, 12 years later, I can safely say: It did help with some of the tiredness, a specific kind of tiredness.

I am still tired in a different way. I feel like I either need a lot of sleep in general (usually 9-10 hours) or something else is up.

Apparently not the case any more.

Schinken_ · 2 years ago
There are several types still in circulation from what I gathered.

The common white/greyish ones might still be a health risk.

Supposedly these blue ones that some shops have adapted is a lot better (and even recyclable?).

I backed up all the old files minutes before the update went through. Pretty sure it can be played on LAN wit some tinkering, so also online with hamachi/gameranger/zero tier/radmin VPN.

But yea, the old matchmaking is gone now. It does make some sense to scrap it, so the player base doesn't get split, but an option to play 'legacy csgo' would be nice.

Schinken_ · 2 years ago
You can probably even rollout your own matchmaking for csgo. People did it for dota 2. There are older modified dots 2 versions out there where people have setup custom matchmaking servers (iirc)

Yes, and while many people can eat them just fine, many others experience health issues when eating tomatoes or other nightshades. The connection between eating the tomatoes and the health issues is not very obvious, and many people suffer for years before figuring it out. A family member had arthritic pain which got quite a bit better when they went gluten free, but it wasn't until they got off of certain plant families that things cleared up.

This. I always had very bad skin and seemingly random outbreaks of my dermatitis. Also breathing issues (asthma related) would appear in tandem.

I figured it out when peeling some potatoes and my skin started itching horribly. Turned red and all.

Tried to avoid potatoes and it's a night and day difference for my overall health.

Also: Sweetpotatoes are not potatoes :)

I find the effect works best for the blue and not at all for red. I wonder if this could be related to chromostereopsis? It could be causing the red grid to appear superimposed above the grey rather than being filtered through it?
