I uploaded a picture of my driver license with my finger covering my D.O.B. and address. They responded by deleting my account I was locked out of and did not want online any longer.

Imagine if the man viewed this while driving, crashed and died or killed others.

So you're happier with an even crappier pseudo-pc. Got it.

the title is misleading- it implies that he was outdoors as a rugged survivalist not however breaking indoors, and being the next moment outdoors....

Agreed. Not just a thief stealing from people for 27 years.

I definitely hate ads like anyone, but it should be acknowledged that ads serve a purpose too, of creating an economy for free content and giving people an avenue to get some income in exchange for their efforts, and possibly be able to devote their full attention to a free project and not have to support themselves with other income. Ads give creators some incentive to create stuff - although the income generally isn't great unless your audience is massive.

That said, the ad networks out there seem pretty awful in terms of privacy, slow-running javascript code mess, huge images or videos adding megabytes to the size of what should be a simple text page, etc. So if it's not doing it already perhaps this project can filter and put some pressure on the ad networks to clean up their mess a bit and not harm the user experience so much, and if an ad network is playing nicely, allow it through as a way to support free projects and their creators.

Let all the users in the world that are not tech savvy support the ad networks then. Ill use AdAway, Block-This.apk, pi-hole, and others.

> Not sure about the US, but there has been significant overdoses and fatalities relating to fentanyl and other related.

Same here in the US. I live in a heavily effected area and its always the same thing fentanyl. People are used to taking a certain dose so that's what they do not knowing fentanyl is in there and it usually results in a death unless someone has or can get narcan there quickly.

Part of me wonders why they don't just do a little first and then do more, but I guess I get it- they are addicted and they just want their fix ASAP.

It would seem logical to use a little to test the potency of a new batch especially. Unfortunately, as an ex user, when you're sick, you're going to do your usual shot or more. I've lost a few friends that were coming down to hard to care about a little to get well first. Big shot, dead.

And who is to say whether or not someone has a Facebook account? 1 Billion FB users, 7 Billion people on earth (guessing, didn't look up numbers)

And what about criminals that know about this possible boarder check and will have dummy padded pro American social media accounts?

This is an excellent blog post, though it made me sick reading it.

I recently made the switch. I went from trying to limit how much I log in (to once or twice a week), to actually not logging in. I've been cold-turkey for two months (except for a couple of times when I had a very specific reason to check something).

I thought it would be difficult. Turns out it's not so hard, and it's the fear of reduced social contact (or dopamine withdrawal more likely) that was stopping me. If you have a plan to replace the social interactions with other forms, you realise that the rest is just dross. If I really want to know what my friends had for breakfast I can phone them up and ask. On balance, I'd rather not.

I'm not at the point of deleting the account yet. Small steps.

Here were my reasons FWIW: http://blog.afandian.com/2017/01/why-i-am-giving-up-on-faceb...

If you're reading and considering whether or not you can withdraw from Facebook, you can do it!

It has taken me almost 8 years to cut Facebook from my life, mainly because I used to log on to tend to my business page. However, like you, I decided enough was enough and went cold turkey 2 weeks ago.

Now 2 weeks later, when FB crosses my mind I am actually happy and sometimes grin thinking of how much I've benefited from quitting it!
