I would not be surprised to find that the numbers provided to insurance/media were not accurate. I suspect a little bit of fraud on the merchants side. While I can't provide proof of any kind, I just suspect after reading that this is what a lot of jewelry stores did upon robbery.

I checked out the archive and came across https://simon.datasette.cloud/data/chatgpt_public_messages?_...

I’m wondering if the archive missed something or what this random statement from the system is about. It seems to be telling itself who it is and setting a restriction on what it knows. I know if it’s not trained on data past a certain point, it cant know it, but still i wonder if you could intercept that and change the cutoff date (if even possible), would that have any effect on anything. But then again, I am probably reading to much into it because it seems to be coming from system.

2023-03-26 04:10:49 - [system] : You are ChatGPT, a large language model trained by OpenAI. Knowledge cutoff: 2021-09 Current date: 2023-03-25

That's what their website says, however I had a play and created a file and logged in and out and the file persisted as did my ability to look at the /onion directory via Tor after the ssh session was stopped.

I read somewhere on their site or in GitHub that files in the home directory are encrypted when you disconnect and when you connect again the encrypted file is restored and so you have files back. If you were to install a program with apt however when you log in again that will be gone.
geoffmcc commented on Amazon copied products and rigged search results to promote its own brands   reuters.com/investigates/... · Posted by u/tysone

Let me this get out first - It's scummy.

However, by no means is this different from the store branded products you find at Safeway or Walgreens. They do the exact same thing. The vendors pay for shelf space, share their profits, only for the supermarkets to copy the product and sell it as store branded ones.

Like a lot of things a fresh perspective helps. People are talking about it now but it was a minor shock when I saw this the first time I visited the US (2012is). I was curious on how the brands were okay with it. I assume they rely on their brand sway. Apparently it's been a thing that goes back a very very long time.

a lot of times it’s the same company selling the high end brand and the low end copy.

I quit smoking, and it was very very hard. I don't agree with you that the addiction, need and nicotine + other triggers will remain with me until the end of time.

Deprogramming is part of the process of quitting to smoke. I do now never want to smoke. It is not attractive to me as a way to relax or focus. I can stand in a tobacco section of an airport taxfree shop holding a 5 cartons in my hands with absolutely no desire to smoke. Likewise for being around other people who smoke. There is no creeping need, no urge.

The deprogramming comes last. When it came around for me, it was gradual but it did definitely come. There is no way, not a chance in the world that I would somehow "relapse". It just is not interesting to me any more.

EDIT: *On slaying the dragon*

I want to add the timeframes, which could be useful as anecdotal data.

It took me 9 months after my last cigarette to get rid of the "critical urges". Then after that it took another 12 months to get rid of the sweet itch I would get. After that period it was gone completely, and I mean absolutely completely. It was an exorcism. To anyone trying to quit smoking; know this, if you fight through it, it all does go away.

First I want to say I don't want you to start smoking again, nor go through something painful. I will admit I have a habit of being negative about things-- so I can't help but to wonder, because you sound so confident.

Would you say that in the time you quit smoking you experienced a time where "The chips were down" so to say? I'm not talking about something small. Im talking things got real real. Cause that's usually when the switch appears.

And it's the config settings every blog ive ever seen about nginx + php-fpm said to use. So I think a lot of sites are vulnerable right now.

Audio previews! Holy shit! Terrible experience. And auto-play for episodes. I know it gets people hooked to watch, but still annoying.

There are so few configurable items in their Netflix menu.

I have noticed lately that the "Are you still there" message has gone away. While it is nice when you are awake, it sucks when you fall asleep and wake up on season 6 of something when last you knew you were on season 2. Then you have to figure out exactly what episode you fell asleep on, not impossible but can be a pain.
