Do people like the Macbook Neo? When I saw it was announced I groaned thinking this was Apple's chromebook, cheap, representative of a disposable mindset. Underpowered and even more locked into the ecosystem..

I'd love to be proven wrong. But to me it feels regressive. I guess the only positive spin on it I can think of is that this is designed for kids in schools.

The only negative is the 8gb ram but the processor lies in between M1 and M2, aluminium chassis etc

In the dark old days before Apple Pay, where it was common in America to hand your credit/debit card to some rando at a restaurant and have them disappear with it for a few minutes, about once a year my bank would call me to ask if I'd been using my card in some far-off locale:

"Hi! Are you in Tijuana?"

"Not since 1993. Why? What's up?"

"So you didn't just try to buy gasoline at a PEMEX there?"

"Nope, I'm in San Francisco as speak."

"OK, thanks! We'll get a new card out in the mail to you."

That's a pretty low bar for identity theft, but I think it's defensible.

Handing your credit card to pay is still such a foreign concept to me

Wouldn't recommend. When I wanted to move from Google Photos to iCloud, there was no way to simply get all my photos. I had to use a JS script that would keep scrolling the page and download photos one by one.

Lesson learnt.

I'd say the core of their success is running everything in a single rack in a single datacenter at first (for months? a year?) and getting lucky. Life is simple when you don't need the costs and effort of reliability upfront.

They mentioned having a backup AWS cluster that would spin up when something happens.

How are people using Anki for maths? Any nice decks you could share?

Not sure, but looking at the interface myself just now, it seems like it's always possible to see the latex of a math field by either 1) right-click > show math as > tex commands (which you can copy/paste), or 2) hover over the field and see the tex commands show up as hover text (but can't copy/paste)
Hardwired8976 · 2 years ago
Thanks! I might have never noticed this due to copying the text before it as well haha.

Thanks for the amazing support and the cool product!

You can view lessons in "reference mode" -- to get there, just click on the old task and then on the name of the topic.

You can also get there from the Table of Contents -- to get there, go to your dashboard (where your learning tasks are), click on the name of your course in the top-left, and you'll be brought to a screen that says "Course Sequence" with a list of courses on the left and units on the right. If you expand the units, you'll see topics, and you can click on a topic to view its lesson in reference mode.

Note that XP & knowledge credit is only awarded for completing learning tasks on your dashboard, not for anything you do within a lesson in reference mode.

Thanks! Will the segments with formulas ever turn into Latex which one could copy and paste?

Love running into Math Academy students in the wild -- thanks for the kind words and I'm so happy that the system is working out for you! After all the work we've put into building this thing, it's the best feeling ever to hear about positive impact it's having on people's lives.

Sounds like you're well on your way to seriously leveling up your math skills, but if you have any questions about how the system works, how to get the most value out of it, the math learning process in general, etc., feel free to reach out anytime.

I love studying there but I would like to be able to explore past lessons (just the information, the theory). How can I do that?

Yes, but by default the only repo enabled for it is $(cat /etc/os-release)-security.

Isn't this kinda the hardware model for Apple devices too? Eg batterygate
Hardwired8976 · 2 years ago
Batterygate was just making sure the phone doesn't shut down suddenly as the battery deteriotes and is less capable.
