The government should not be bearing that cost. It is idiotic to ever put the state in charge of people's health.

> Don't get me wrong; I'm actually considering making a similar move but more for business reasons (some of our German customers really don't like US hosting companies) than for cost savings

There will be a new AWS European Sovereign Cloud[1] with the goal of being completely US independent and 100% compliant with EU law and regulations.

Our customers across EU (hospitals) are not impressed or interested (n=175). Such a delusional project.

The ICC move by MS made hospitals go in an even higher gear to prepare off-ramp plans. From private Azure cloud to “let’s get out”

Email me. I'll give you a server to further development.

All the good open source tile servers have pivoted into commercial businesses, and I'd like to support the development of a project that stays open.

My friend Alexander created an easy docker file[1] for an OSM tile server. I use it for nearly two years without problems.

Joan’s parent company, Visionect[1], also produces the Place & Play, a 13” or 36” eInk display[2]. Some guy created a rotating newspaper frame from it[3]. Looks quite amazing, and it has a 1 year battery life.

There has been quite some research on hyperbaric oxygen therapy and other neurological diseases.

My dad was involved in MS research in the 80s utilizing hyperbaric oxygen. After some hopeful results, no clear evidence was found.

I moved with my girlfriend from our apartment in Amsterdam to her family holiday home on an island in South-Eastern Europe. We save a decent amount of cash (our rent+utilities was 2000€ alone) and live an amazing life here.

Definitely considering to find remote-only positions in the future. Currently my company allows me to wait out COVID anywhere within roughly the same timezone.

Every time I try out Flask, Aiohttp or even Express.js I appreciate more the stuff Django normally does for me.
zius · 7 years ago
Django abstracts away a bit too much, if you ask me. For a simple REST API it's complete overkill. I prefer Flask or Falcon[0], in which you don't just get better performance[1] but also a lower level of control.

This is very cool tech, but it seems like a niche use-case. It's not made for consumers, and the vast majority of IoT devices barely move, let alone between countries.

But, if I were working for a haulage company and was interested in tracking, say, truck location, speed etc across the whole of Europe I could see this being a great way to do it.

I am experimenting with GPS luggage tracking hardware with simple live-updates. This is potentially a great use-case.
