ILS generally still requires manual visual approaches from the minimum altitude to the ground. Only ILS Cat III-C is a true autoland that can take the aircraft down all the way to the ground.

Even then, aircraft certification requirements even for Cat III-C capable aircraft requires that pilots be able to conduct a visual approach because the ILS system can fail.

An aircraft that has literally no recourse when ILS Cat III-C capability goes down (either on the aircraft side or the airfield side) does not seem like a good idea, especially because in this case large categories of emergencies are positively correlated with avionics failure.

For example an engine failure may cause power loss to avionics, so your fancy AR webcam feed is more likely to go down in that situation just when you need to make an emergency landing.

Not impossible to overcome of course - you certainly can ensure your avionics have its own isolated (and multiply redundant) power source so that it does stay up in the event of many kinds of emergencies, but personally I'd need to really see the homework on that before I'd feel safe flying in that kind of setup.

The category of of ILS does not dictate its autoland status. You can do an Autoland on nearly any ILS provided the FAC is aligned with the RWY.

A CAT IIIB ILS will permit in most states a landing with a radio altitude of 0.

(Still installing/configuring.)

Awesome, this is the main piece of puzzle I (or rather: my wife) miss from Nextcloud (the default Photos has terrible performance and lacks some features). Gonna set it up. Also nice to see Face Recognition app is used. Now I'm gonna have to edit my docker-compose.yml for the dependencies but that is fine.

Also, I've been trying Photoprism and also I tried Immich in past. They have disadvantages: they don't sync with whatever got uploaded to Nextcloud and they either do not have a mobile front-end or it is some web app. They also have stability issues, though I had most success with Photoprism.

I suppose it won't be as useful to me as it could be as I'm stripping all EXIF data from any photo uploaded by Nextcloud because I fear my wife stupidly just shares whatever when she should not. Yes, I know you can do OSINT analysis anyway, but that is a skill as of yet.

None of those negatives you mentioned apply to Immich.

Honestly anything with `ardu` in the name screams "I just learnt to code and I don't know what I'm doing". I know nothing about this space but I'd definitely check out the PX4 link that they other guy posted before this.

IMO it's not that there 'were' multiple species and only we survived; we are still multiple species, but we don't point that out for cultural correctness. Yes, the extent of our differences has narrowed as we passed through survival bottlenecks, but we never became a single species.

If you have the capacity to end peoples' lives with an arm spasm I think your privacy should rightfully take a backseat.

Absolutely not. Body cams mute the first part of the audio for this exact reason. Privacy is important.

It can't, like its is already the case with the Airbus, where the computer wont allow maneuvers, that would compromise the integrity of the air frame due to excessive G's.

"Single-Pilot Operations Are Under Increased Scrutiny" - https://aviationweek.com/air-transport/safety-ops-regulation...

Under some circumstances its already happening, in a way...."EASA is among many regulators that, under very specific guidelines, allow one pilot to take a nap in their seat while the other stays at the controls."

wkipling · 2 years ago
Controlled rest is completely different. It is not already happening.

> it strikes me as fine--if the pilot is incapacitated the plane should be able to land itself at the nearest airport.

The proposal on the table is not to have only one pilot on the flight. It's to have only one on duty during cruise phase only while the other one rests. This way they can skip the full double crew requirement during long haul.

So during takeoff and landing the cockpit will still be fully staffed. And in an emergency the resting pilot can be called. Toilet breaks would be covered by the other pilot too. So the cockpit is never empty. Doesn't sound like such a bad idea imo. During cruise the plane is normally flying itself from waypoint to waypoint anyway. Though I wonder how much quality of rest you can get in such a scenario (having to be woken up for every toilet break etc)

There will also be a remote hands support center, I'm less confident about that idea but as long as it's extra and not counted on it might be a good option.

Sounds like shit to me.

16hr long haul and everytime the other guy needs to piss you get woken up. Then you both have to fly the approach completely cooked from the shit rest. And thats without wx or diversions. Clearly not thought out.

Yeah, trying to learn KiCad is worse than learning Blender. If JLCPcb made a simple online editor that sourced from available parts and integrated directly with their store they'd be running out of banks to put their money into.
wkipling · 2 years ago
Kicad is not that difficult to use. Sourcing parts can be though.

Why a tonnage limit for electric vehicles. It's obviously not entirely for GHG reasons. 2T is not all that heavy for EVs.
