Attacks like this are not helped by the increasingly-common "curl | bash" installation instructions (e.g. the new "native" Claude Code install)...

Publish through homebrew like a civilized person, please!

As if homebrew is any more secure. The only reason to use homebrew is convenience.

Looks to me like LinkedIn is fetching chrome-extension://{extension id}/{known filename} and seeing if it succeeds, not pinging the web store.

Should be patched nonetheless though, that's a pretty obscene fingerprinting vector.

what · 4 days ago
How do you patch it? The extensions themselves (presumably) need to access the same web accessible resources from their content scripts. How do you differentiate between some extension’s content script requesting the resource and LinkedIn requesting it?

I have really severe ADHD. Agents are lifesaving to me. Literally.
what · 4 days ago
Can you explain how? You apparently didn’t die all the way to the few months ago that “agents” became a thing.

> Why do you need price trackers for airbnb? It is not a superliquid market with daily price swings.

That was just an example.

Could be airline tickets, Ebay/craigslist items, deals from brands you like, etc.

Pretty bad example then.

Fridge cataloging is actually a great use case for image recognition, the problem is fridges no accommodations to power accessories inside them.

I have a couple of temperature sensors to alert Home Assistant if the fridge gets too warm. It would be easy and cheap to add some ESP32-camera modules to track contents...but there's no way to power them nicely (I simply don't know where I could pull USB power through).

You can only track what containers are in the fridge, not how much is left or if it’s expired. “Automated” pantry or fridge tracking is just not possible and requires way more effort than just writing “mustard” on the shopping list when you notice you’re low.

> When I run 'notepad dir1/file1.txt', the package should not sneakily be able to access dir2.

What happens if the user presses ^O, expecting a file open dialog that could navigate to other directories? Would the dialog be somehow integrated to the OS and run with higher permissions, and then notepad is given permissions to the other directory that the user selects?

what · 5 days ago
Pretty sure that’s how it works on iOS. The app can only access its own sandboxed directory. If it wants anything else, it has to use a system provided file picker that provides a security scoped url for the selected file.

Real ID/Drivers License being a proof of address is laughable. In my state (NY) they accept the following as proof of address for getting a new Real ID:

- Bank statement

- Pay stub

- Utility bill

- Any other state ID with the same last name, which I can claim is my parent or spouse.

I can change my mailing address on any of them with a few clicks online, no actual verification needed.

What they do NOT accept as proof of address:

- My passport

How does that make any sense?

Yes, but you’d have to be able to retrieve mail from that address?
