You see a circular loading animation? For me, it's a horizontal bar with a blue bit that dances left-to-right.
wattson12 · 8 years ago
I see the horizontal loading, and it is also very slow (30 seconds + in some cases)

I feel like London is just the test city since it's where their offices are. Maybe the plan is to fine-tune the platform here and then expand to cities which are not as well served by public transport?
wattson12 · 8 years ago
In their own blog post they specifically mention that (https://content.citymapper.com/news/1800/introducing-the-cit...)

> London is actually not that badly served, but other cities have major gaps

not sure where you got the slimfast nutritional info but they have 1g of sugar: http://slimfast.com/advanced-nutrition/#shakes

if it had that much sugar, it wouldve never gained a reputation for losing weight.

wattson12 · 8 years ago
looks like the "original" versions have much more sugar: http://slimfast.com/original/#shakes

But on the top of that you still need an iPhone, right?
wattson12 · 10 years ago
you could (depending on the app) write and submit an app without ever running it on a device. Obviously not recommended though

and I use auto layout as much as possible

Did you mean as "little" as possible?

no

I've been an iOS developer for about 5 years, and I do all my UI in code (one exception: the watch app we have is using storyboards). Storyboards are fine but I find them slow once they get to a certain size, which for any non trivial app, I always hit

I try to keep view controllers clean by having view subclasses which manage layout, and I use auto layout as much as possible

Saying that though, its not the standard, and Apple push storyboards more and more every year, so I would guess I'm in the minority

For those in the United Kingdom (where this video is blocked) you can see the interview part here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykfGWcmUbbk

his videos are only blocked until they air on HBO in the US, so in a day or so they should be available in the UK
wattson12 commented on Ask HN: Why would I want to pay with my phone?    · Posted by u/sbt
Goronmon · 10 years ago
Card: Get out wallet, put card in machine, wait 10 seconds for authorization (I'm in Switzerland - their terminals take longer), sign receipt. I hate signing.

I am finding more and more that I don't have to actually sign anything when paying with a credit card. It is funny how removing that small interaction seems to make the entire process much simpler and faster.

wattson12 · 10 years ago
I can't remember the last time I signed for something. These days (UK / Australia) its annoying when I can't just hold my wallet against the reader and have to enter my PIN

Sounds like you got lucky then.

wattson12 · 11 years ago
I just bought a 2 bed terrace in zone 4 for 280k, its not cheap but there are some places that are a lot more affordable (especially if you don't mind going south of the river)
