I lived next to a mom and pop store, not grocery, selling crystals and such. The owner of the store allowed a homeless camp on the store's lot. City could not clean it out because it's on a private property. The closest tent was less than 50' from my bedroom. The homeless fought, burned stuff, blasted music and hopped over 8' fence into my backyard to help themselves with anything they found there. Store owner was not bothered perhaps because during the day the homeless wondered off, perhaps he just liked them. The police did not do anything, would not even come over noise complaints. Would you like to live like this?

I don’t think it’s a common pattern for mom and pop stores to have a homeless camp on their lot.

Do you want people being able to command your phone without unblocking? Maybe what you want is to disable phone blocking all together

Probably need VoiceID so only authorized people can talk to it.

It seems like a failure in vision from leadership rather than a failure in governance. My understanding is that the company was told from the very top to put AI everywhere and that's exactly what they did.
vjvjvjvjghv · 6 days ago
I think it’s governance. It can make sense to ask to put AI into everything. But then you also need to check it’s done in a useful way. MS leadership seems to have skipped this step.

Also, the Copilot is “waiting in the wings” to take over your job.

And when you ask it to do something useful the answer usually is “sorry I can’t do that”.

The Office brand is literally gone, they renamed it to "Microsoft Copilot 365 app". Check https://office.com
vjvjvjvjghv · 6 days ago
That is insane. Microsoft Office is probably one of the most recognizable brand names ever. Reminds me of the time when they called everything .NET.

I am an American and I make a very conscious effort to appreciate social and political nuances. And I go out of my way to point out nuances to others who, in my opinion, oversimplify their statements. It could be argued that the expression of stereotyping Americans as lacking nuance, itself lacks nuance. I believe really most people are similar in that we have our biases, differences in context and experiences. We can all try our best to be as nuanced as possible.
vjvjvjvjghv · 7 days ago
I think that the stereotype of Americans lacking nuance around political issue is valid. Obviously, like all stereotypes, it’s not 100% true but Americans seem to feel obliged to pick one side of an issue, most of the time aligned with the worth of their choice, and then to view everything that’s happening through that lens.

Try to point out to a democrat that Trump is doing something right or to a Trump voter that Biden did something right. Most of them can’t accept that. The “other” side has to all bad. I don’t see this to such an extreme in other countries I know like Germany or Spain.

I'll say that I'm still kinda on the fence here, but I will point out that your argument is exactly the same as the argument against calculators back in the 70s/80s, computers and the internet in the 90s, etc.
vjvjvjvjghv · 8 days ago
You could argue that a lot of the people who few up with calculators have lost any kind of mathematical intuition. I am always horrified how bad a lot of people are with simple math, interest rates and other things. This definitely opened up a lot of opportunities for companies to exploit this ignorance.

Coding is the 5 minute result for an hour of thinking.
vjvjvjvjghv · 8 days ago
How do you define “coding”? In my mind the thinking is part of coding.
