>we expect to be misled for the purpose of entertainment, and rightly decry illusion in what is presented to us as documentation

Believe in unbiased documentation at your peril. When you desire a peek behind the curtain into random people's lives you are going to get taken for a ride everytime. That makes scrolling heavy on entertainment value and all users know it.

Social media algorithm scores are just a way for us to outsource easy reputation management, that puts a lot of hops in between you and authenticity and can't really be called a "shared reality" with a straight face. Perhaps now something better can come along that doesn't favor Image marksmen.

Some users who signed up for pro ($50 p.m.) are reporting further limitations than those advertised.

>While they advertise a 1,000-request limit, the actual daily constraint is a 7.5 million-token limit. [1]

Assumes an average of 7.5k/request whereas in their marketing videos they show API requests ballooning by ~24k per request. Still lower than the API price.

A weird tech-related aspect to this for me. A few weeks ago I saw a viral video of his daughter saying that the final show really was his “funeral” and that he knew it would be his last show. I’m not a fan of his really so the video kinda passed me by, and I didn’t even realize it was AI generated. Upon his death now I’m struck by how accurate the video was. And, how it was emotionally very….accurate? I had internalized it as “truth” because I didn’t care enough to verify. But, in a weird way, it was “truth” even though the specific facts of it may not have been accurate. I don’t know if I have a particular point here, just that the experience of AI infiltrating in this sideways method is …concerning.

The AI "voice-over clone" was more like default TTS David_British_1, the emotional video montage and text was what worked on people.

Ironically, the daughter's vlog [2] protesting the first fake "I'm dying" confession [1] helped the story gain traction, there was a second fake video of a random female voice claiming to be her [3] verifying the original story [1] which is probably what you saw.

The point is endless random autoplay is dupe central.

> Don’t let inevitabilism frame the argument and take away your choice. Think about the future you want, and fight for it.

What would 'fight for it' in this context mean?

I'm fighting for no health care in your home.

It's more that big money going towards a clear and desirable endgame is a fairly sure thing. I choose to avoid lots of tech and I won't download the app but it's very hard to see how fighting a promising open tech like LLMs is the "pro-humanity" stance here.

You mean to tell me even anti-AI people are glazing my unseen prompts now! The solve for slop is easy for teachers and communicators alike: stop asking sorry questions and you stop getting sorry responses. Or stay the easy course, you will cede the game to discreet cheaters just to make honest people jump through antiquated hoops.

Ah yes, maintenance, the most fun and satisfying part of the job. /s

Anyone who might dismiss this as being just a few isolated cases — or who think it is desirable to just remove political opponents from the equation — should think long and hard about what it will actually take to maintain this kind of “criminalisation of dissent” over the long term… escalation is inevitable.

There is clearly an intentional narrative being pushed that defines anyone who disagrees with the current administration’s ideology as an enemy who should be punished. Even if the risk to any one person is currently relatively small, just the threat itself will have profound effects on individual’s decisions.

A massive brain drain seems inevitable but such a war on free speech will also radicalise people, even if it starts only in whispers. That will likely necessitate further oppressive measures to “stamp it out” and so forth, creating a vicious cycle. With each iteration the stakes increase, justifying increasingly violent measures & countermeasures on both sides, further increasing the consequences of — and the need avoid — actually being held accountable for those actions…
