The country is Iran. Sad to see BBC resorting to clickbait.

The BBC has been rabidly anti-Iran since like 2003, when I first started reading it.

I guess America cares about India's human rights record now that India is trading with Russia and doesn't back Ukraine unconditionally. You coud totally see this coming once India started trading with Russia.

The Indian government, and especially the current government, has been treating muslims terribly for years. But the American establishment didn't have a problem with it until India declared they wouldn't go along with Russian sanctions.

India is getting an exemption from Russian sanctions because they're considered a counter-weight to China.

Only as complex as you want to make it! My very first Pokemon game was a case statement where you picked your first Pokemon and it emulated the dialogue.

My second attempt was before I knew about OOP or FP, and just had a C++ array that held Pokemon data in set indexes. That was during my first programming class haha

I do recall writing a text "battle" game in the Pokemon style with Harry Potter characters but that was a single battle sequence. It was also before I knew OOP and for my first programming class :) Your comment brought back some memories.

Pokemon games!! All of the algebra is solved, and you can dig as deeply as you like in any direction you like.

Graphics? Check. And simple, top down, tilesheet or character maps work just fine.

Battles? Check. You can leverage anything from purely functional, object oriented, websocket, long polling, SQL, you name it. Whether you use 3 elemental types or flesh out everything from multiturn, semivulnerable, exp/leveling, it's all up to you.

Wanna just build an REST/GraphQL/gRPC API? Or a UI? PokeAPI is an opensource database of nearly all game data from moves, items, and species.

Pokemon is an endless, any-scope, extremely documented, opensource-rich field of exploration.

This article describes way too much OCD and wasted time.

Here's my solution:

  * Buy 4x pairs cheapish glasses from Zenni.

  * Beat the crap out of them.

  * Replace as needed.

Yup, this is my new go to. I don't even bother with the insurance reimbursement any more.

Six figures "invested" in cryptocurrency speculation without even informing his partner?

I have real trouble relating to these kinds of people.

IDK my wife has no interest in my investments. I don't necessarily hide it from her, it's just not a thing that comes up.

My favorite story of "unintended consequences" of belt-tightening like this was when I worked at a startup about a dozen years ago. We did well for a few years, but it was clear to people we were reaching a point of market saturation. Nevertheless, the CEO kept agreeing to doubling of sales revenue year after year. Well, no surprise, the last year before big layoffs, we were way off on sales goals.

The CEO announces we have to "put our heads down." Pretty much the main change enacted was no more ping pong. The problem is that were really only two guys constantly in the ping pong room. Those two guys just happened to be the two most senior sales guys, and the only two that were meeting quota.

They both left about a month after this and not-so-slyly told the CEO he was an idiot.

Man how out of touch do you have to be to do that.

I know it’s only a part of their reasons for unionizing, but out of curiosity how many people here have actually seen their pay keep up with inflation this year? (8%+ without promotion or job switching). Survey of my friends points to basically no one.

5% for me instead of the usual 3%. I'm looking for jobs now.

I have a ton of these set up in Firefox which used to work seamlessly on mobile until they ruined it in the disaster of a rewrite, and now they don't plan to bring it back at all in favor of some replacement system that's still not done yet.
throwaway123x2 · 3 years ago
That rewrite has been so bad, ruined probably the best mobile browser out there.
