For context here: This guy is a right-wing nutjob who spews Russian propaganda. Ensuring cash is mandated in the constitution ensures that there is always a good money laundering and bribing method available, especially for the Russian mob and spy agencies, which Vienna is crawling with for years: https://www.businessinsider.com/vienna-crawling-russian-spie...

Mom, there's a Russian under my bed!

Lol, the article you just posted is literally an example of bribing someone without using cash. Did you even read it? Do you get your information from just reading headlines without any critical thought? Was this post generated by ChatGPT?

Using a very basic and simple understanding of how votee politics and Austria works it's pretty obvious what the simplest reason this policy is being proposed: Cash is popular in Austria and this guy wants to get votes.

Surprised to see someone I associate with the right wing standing up for privacy, but a win is a win.

Me too, those large Tech companies in California harvesting all of your data are known for their support and donations to Right Wing candidates

It was sustainable until Google eviscerated them.
thestevesie · 3 years ago
cute talking point. but it actually turns out that Google was helping them. see the countries that have implemented laws demanding that Google pay news outlets, the news outlets got dropped and their traffic plummeted, so they demanding things go back the way they were before

Of course, critical analysis is beyond the average know-it-all who gets their opinions from headlines with no real analysis

Looks like this is the last time I’ll have to point out on HN that BuzzFeed News was the “serious news” side of BuzzFeed, not the main listicle side of the business. They won a Pulitzer in 2021 for International Reporting, and 2 Polk Awards [0]

They also had one of the best news org GitHub repos, with the code and data and documentation for their investigations:

Just because a news outlet received a couple of awards does not mean that it was an overall quality outlet. That is a terrible metric and your recursive citation really shows how poor your judgement is in general.

Bottom line is that Buzzfeed news was a far left rag. The world will be better of with less polarizing news outlets.

I honestly don't care if this is correct or not. It's fun to watch even if this guy has negative charisma when compared to Georgio Tsoukawhatever or Randall Carlson. Don't really care for his whole schtick (at least he didn't do his "dude drugs" thing like he always does on Joe Rogan).

(I think he's probably not right, but following all these interesting archeological sites is enjoyable).

Genuine question: I always hear about the gigantic military spending in the U.S. I would've expected it to be on top of this list. It can't be only 7. no?
thestevesie · 3 years ago
Its large compared to other similar countries.

So why doesn't the US just spend that money so we can be more like X trendy country I heard about on Y blog/podcast that is a fraction of the size of the US and does "EVERYTHING" better?

Well, the case is that they have more money to spend because the US is subsidizing their military. So many of these countries are able to get away with tiny military budgets because of the US's large military budget. (all of those countries are also unrecoverably in decline)

Apple is the worst thing that could happen to VR.

Facebook may be 'toxic' but the Meta is cheap, amazing, supports Air Link for PC, even has cross-play (buy a Quest game, play it on PC at better graphics). Privacy options, they -removed- Facebook login, you can sideload apps. Tacit support for modding games like Beat Saber.

Apple would turn their headset into a walled garden with no ability to run custom apps and definitely no Air Link. Try to mod a game and get banned.

Removed the Facebook login? Lol, now it prompts me every-time I use it to create a Horizon's account. I personally couldn't care less about the facebook login, and really never saw what the big deal was. I created a facebook account which I only use for the quest 2. You're going to need an account, what does it matter which platform it is from?

I'm sick of people criticizing Apple's walled garden. It's the primary feature of Apple products. It's what makes them what they are. If you don't like it, just buy something else. No one is forcing you to buy Apple if you don't like the walled garden. Many people like it and I'm amazed that there are so many people that don't understand that.
