Am I crazy or is converting a dockerfile into LXC something that should be possible?
tharos47 · a month ago
It should in an ideal world but docker is a very leaky abstraction imho and you will run into a number of problems.

It has improved as of newer kernel and docker versions but they were problems (overlayfs/zfs incompatibilities/ uid mapping problems in docker images/ capabilities requested by docker not available in LXC, rootless docker problems,...)

There seems to be a contingent that just doesn't use scroll back search, which I find kind of baffling.
tharos47 · 2 months ago
I use ctrl+R for search that way I'm not dependent of a terminal emulator features and can get to work even on random computers.

The OpenSSH change is madness if it's not a bug. I hope it's not intentional.
tharos47 · 5 months ago
It was done in Ubuntu a few versions ago. Afaik only the listening port config is ignored and instead is setup in systemd

Here is american Express "secure email" documentation : https://www.americanexpress.com/us/customer-service/secure-e...

I've mistakenly deleted from our mail quarantine multiple times as spam/phishing. Imho it's wilful négligence toynkeep such a system operating in 2025.

I've been using Coolify for about a year now and have been very happy with it. It's really low maintenance, it has built in backups for your apps and databases, decent security by default, and is super easy to use. I log into the underlying VMs once per month to do an apt update/upgrade, and that's about it.
tharos47 · 9 months ago
I have (re)installed it recently and I can't find the apps backup. The only backup that seems to run in settings is the coolify instance backup.

Moreover I don't see a way to restore a coolify hosted app from the gui (couldn't find one in the doc too). The documentation around traefik and caddy is lackink a bit. It seems they want you to expose the coolify server directly on the internet. I prefer to host my services behind a cloudflare tunnel and it was a bit janky to setup.

It's low maintenance and stable and certainly has come a long way since I tried it about 2 years ago but there is still many improvements to make.

Could you create a slipstream ISO using nlite, create a user and then it's bypassed?
tharos47 · 9 months ago
The simplest way imho would be to use Windows configuration designer. It generates a file that automate windows oobe when put on a USB key connected to the pc during setup.

I have been using coolify on a bare metal server and it has been such a great experience.

The ability to spin up services is crazy good and easy. I was able to evaluate n8n, windmill.dev and prefect in 3 hours because I was able to quickly setup these clusters and test them. And final thing was to compile my code as docker container and spin it up on coolify within mins with custom domain and ssl.

How is it different and eaiser than coolify kinda setup?

tharos47 · 9 months ago
How do you handle backups ? I recently setup coolify and installed the included WordPress. WordPress was broken by a failed module install, I wanted to restore a backup and didn't find a way to backup only one service/stack.

Compared to simply docker compose isolated in a vm/lxc container it was not a particularly better experience.

I also wanted to use cloudflare tunnels instead of exposing the server on the internet and it seems coolify really prefers to work directly on the internet (lacking reverse proxy doc, ...)

Oracle constantly kills my free instance, it's not reliable without frequent manual intervention. It's more like a "try it, see for yourself, we have a real cloud, but no guarantees" freebie toy.

I know they absolutely do cull free instances to make capacity for paying customers.

tharos47 · 10 months ago
Afaik they do but only for low system ressource usage. Anecdotally I had my test free instance culled years ago. But later I deployed a minecraft server (higher baseline ram+cpu use than a web server or small app) and they never culled it (3+ years uptime until a friend reminded me of the server and I updated/restarted it)

That is sad. I need multiple profiles for my work and I cannot use Firefox because the profile support is awful. Creating and managing profiles as well as switching profiles is so intuitive in Chrome, it just works. In Firefox it's extremely user hostile. Hearing that Microsoft will also remove uBlock from Edge makes me angry, because that will make my work-life so much more annoying.
tharos47 · 10 months ago
You should use "Multi account containers" instead of profiles in firefox. It's like profiles in chrome/edge but it works by tab instead.
