SG- commented on The 'untouchable hacker god' behind Finland's biggest crime   theguardian.com/technolog... · Posted by u/c420

I find it strange to report on a hacker releasing personal information, while building the narrative of the story with all of the personal details like "she’d had three children by the time she was 25, including twins who had been born extremely prematurely in the 1980s, weighing only a few hundred grams each", "crumbling marriage", and suicidal ideations.

I thought the whole point is that they were upset that their personal life was being broadcasted to the internet.

probably because the secrets released were much more confidential and serious than that?
SG- commented on Lego announces Smart Brick, the 'most significant evolution' in 50 years, no AI   theverge.com/tech/854556/... · Posted by u/satvikpendem

Unfortunately Lego kind of went backwards, evolution-wise, in the last 20 years or so. I had quite some Lego blocks in my youth and the best part was free assembly rather than those overpriced build-xyz-mega-sets one sees today now. I get it that they cater to another market, e. g. also collecters, but the creativity part really went down. And that was a deliberate decision made by Lego.

they're doing this because their market has shifted to adults and toy collectors spending large amount of money on them.

I'm curious what the issue is with using Handbrake? I use it all the time on macOS and it's generally a simple and effective tool for my purposes.

the author can't stand how it simply re-encodes videos instead of extracting the video tracks and puts them in new containers.

It's a year old article.

the point still stands as last year the M4 was released and was already seeing those deals especially with the M3 earlier too.

author mentions he paid $750 for a MacBook Air M2 with 16GB while on Amazon a M4 Air with 16GB is usually $750-800. I get it that M4/M3 aren't supported to boot Asahi yet, but still.

It's interesting how they're so concerned with censorship now. Weren't they the ones who were all up in arms about censoring everyone with right-wing views? But now that the script has flipped, suddenly it's a problem. It's not like we didn't try to warn them that if they force open the floodgates of censorship, then it can happen to them too. Maybe, just maybe, we should all stop trying to control what other people think and say. Mind your fucking business and leave other people alone. I hope this gets resolved. I don't believe that anyone should be censored, whether they agree with my views and beliefs or not.

reproduction and abortion has nothing to do with fake news tho. you're lumping groups of people into a side to justify your bigoted, selfish and ignorant views.

Weirdly, Netflix on my Samsung TV it's been a few months it's using only H264. Not AV1. When they first launched AV1, it worked there...

Honestly not complaining, because they were using AV1 with 800-900~kbps for 1080p content, which is clearly not enough compared to their 6Mbps h.264 bitrate.

SG- · 2 months ago
they may have determined the decoding of av1 was too poor or that software decoding av1 wasn't a good idea.

When even H.265 is being dropped by the likes of Dell, adoption of H.266 will be even worse making it basically DOA for anything promising. It's plagued by the same problems H.265 is.

Dell is significant in the streaming and media world?
