Are there any particular brands that you like?

I use different things based on what it's for. Ground flax seeds for baking, aquafaba for souffles, tofu with black salt for scrambles, "Just Egg!" for egg wash when frying, and maple syrup for egg wash on breads. Of those, I mostly bake, so keeping the flax seeds around is much more convenient for me than regularly buying eggs anyway.

I did try different 8BitDo controllers, and one issue with them is the "multi-mode": in order to make them work with Android/iOS/Windows/whatever, you need to press some key before connecting them, to change the way the OS recognizes the input. Which is a deal-breaker for small children, and prevents keeping things simple (e.g. "remember to disconnect and reconnect the USB before turning the power on", e.g. when using a Raspberry Pi-based console emulator). For wireless controllers, it's even worse (extra Bluetooth mode). If only they had mechanical switches to select this behavior... You may need to keep the instructions booklet with it, just to remember which keys must be pressed before turning it on, to see which mode will be activated. The controller in TFA is more useful in this scenario, since it will always behave in the same way.

The ones I have (SF30/SN30) remember which mode they're in so I just press the start button and it connects to my Switch. Then if I change it to bluetooth, it's the same for my Steam link until I switch it back. Plus there's a sticker on the back that gives the combos to change modes (Y+Start=Switch, X+Start=Bluetooth, etc). Some models, like the Lite 2, do have that physical mode switch.

And losing it. I’m sure many people are surprised to come back to their GB, NES, and SNES games after a few decades to find that their save files are gone.

I was surprised last year to find my saves on Zelda 2 and others were still intact. Zelda 1 had been dead for years though.

I received a pair of Tannus Airless tires ( https://tannustires.com/ ) for christmas, and have been waiting for good weather to install them.

While they weigh more than regular tires, they weigh less than the combined weight of regular tires + pump + patch kit, so it's a net win on weight.

For me, the biggest win is not about not worrying whether or not I get a flat, it's not having to pump the darn things up week in and week out before going out on my (admittedly city commuter) rides.

I love my Tannus tires. I spent a lot of time and money fixing flats from puncture vine (goatheads) on my road bike before getting them. I don't feel like it added much bad weight because they are so narrow, unlike my airless mountain bike tires. Well worth it.

I interviewed at a company under Hall Labs (https://halllabs.com/). All hourly paid employees with no benefits. Not certain about their management or meeting handling though.

What has been your biggest hang up so far? Have you worked out a viable business plan?
stickmangallows · 8 years ago
It takes weeks to actually get the fiber quotes. I only got that one quote last week after a month and still trying to get others. Now I need to spread the word more and gauge how much interest there is before I can really commit to it. So far, it seems promising.

What finally got me started up on it was seeing how fast and cheap some of the wireless equipment had gotten, specifically Ubiquiti's wireless mesh equipment. Still need a lot of research on how to engineer a solution to my situation.

This is perfect. I started the ball rolling on my own ISP last month and have gathered advice from another local ISP and online sources. So far I've gotten one quote of $950/month for resellable 100/100mbps fiber, I'm about to start drumming up local support, and I have some various ideas about how to connect everything together. This will certainly help it along.

My favorites are the ones where you can't use more than a certain number of characters or where you can't use special characters.

Or when the system truncates a long password during password creation and doesn't tell you. Then when you log in, the full password fails.
