This is one of the key sentences:

> Policymakers and the public, however, remain largely unaware of the risks posed by such a practically irreversible transition

Most people still underestimate what it means for the earth system to change from the current stable state into another state, which might need many years to become stable again. And that new stable state might be a lot less favourable for us humans.

"need many years to become stable again"

People are selfish. "Life will be much harder, and the problem will never be fixable within the rest of your life or your childrens' lives"

If you'd have asked me a few years ago if anything could be an existential threat to github's dominance in the tech community I'd have quickly said no.

If they don't get their ops house in order, this will go down as an all-time own goal in our industry.

This is Microsoft. They forced a move to Azure, and then prioritized AI workfloads higher. I'm sure the traing read workloads on GH are nontrivial.

They literally have the golden goose, the training stream of all software development, dependencies, trending tool usage.

In an age of model providers trying train their models and keep them current, the value of GitHub should easily be in the high tens of billions or more. The CEO of Microsoft should be directly involved at this point, their franchise at risk on multiple fronts now. Windows 11 is extremely bad. GitHub going to lose their foundational role in modern development shortly, and early indications are that they hitched their wagon to the wrong foundational model provider.

It doesn't take much of a genius to realize a bunch of AI based defense tech using prediction markets as a signal would allow a small amount of money to influence the markets.

These are transparently ways for other nation states or the wealthy to influence military, diplomatic, and foreign policy - that is to say, corruption.

throwaway5752 commented on TikTok users can't upload anti-ICE videos. The company blames tech issues   cnn.com/2026/01/26/tech/t... · Posted by u/kotaKat

TikTok said in a statement that glitches on the app were due to a power outage at a US data center. As a result, a spokesperson for TikTok US Joint Venture told CNN, it’s taking longer for videos to be uploaded and recommended to other users. The tech issues were “unrelated to last week’s news,” TikTok said.

There was a major storm over the weekend. I think the issues have been resolved. Is it still the case anti ICE videos can't be uploaded? Seems easy to test.

If someone demonstrates they are liars, there is a reasonable default reaction. Most people can ignore what they say, because liars made the conscious decision not to be credible.

It is an incredible time-saving productivity hack to disregard what habitual liars say.
