"I can surround your child with dangerous unhealthy things and do my best to corrupt and poison them, there should be no limit to this behavior whatsoever because if I succeed it's your fault for being bad parents! All you have to do is say no, it's not like it's my full time job to make end-runs around you with the aid of behavioral science and psychology and a budget, no no no guiding your children morally is as simple as saying no once, are you too stupid and lazy to do that?".
LLMs are a huge step forward. Sure, they might not be the thing to ultimately deliver superhuman intelligence. But it's unfair to say that we're not any closer at all.
The long term issue that many people don't seem willing to mention out loud is that we will eventually make humanity obsolete and robots will literally take control.
The only real solution to the threat of militarization of AI and robotics might be to create a more unified global government and culture. The first challenge is for people to see that as a worthy goal.
Sometimes I think most of our problems come down to not being on the same page. And I wonder if somehow in the future we gradually become a tiny bit like The Borg.
So maybe we are headed towards a "meta-system transition" where we have some kind of direct links between groups of AI and humans that combine to form a more intelligent and effective organism in some way.
I guess I just came up with a Black Mirror episode concept.
what are you talking about; the main marketing strategy for so terribly many ai companies is to run around declaring the end is soon because their product is so powerful
>The only real solution to the threat of militarization of AI and robotics might be to create a more unified global government and culture.
At this point I think you're joking. Tightly centralizing power always results in oligarchy, kleptocracy, and collapse. And why do you think this central world government wouldn't militarize via your unstoppable robots?
Turn off ALL chat except tactical team quick chats, otherwise it's a toxic quagmire.
Like you'll never be a big fish in a small pond. If you played as much as you currently do but could only play with people local to you, you'd be the best person you know at this thing. And that's a really good feeling. But you'll never get that feeling, because you should really be grinding past whatever plat 3 is in order to not suck.
So I don't know what this is.
Everyone I've ever talked to has an antagonistic view of these companies and most other american institutions, and the more you hate them and recognize they hate you, the better off you are financially.
Some people think it's best to just avoid the drama and ask first.
It took me a couple awkward minutes to realize that I'm the only one standing on my feet and not sitting in a car wherever I was looking. I apologized (???) and told them I was heading to a museum, bc I'm a visitor here and that's what we do right? I added a colleague's address and assured them that I'm not "confused", and will take an Uber now.
This was simply unbelievable in my world; for the next week I observed my colleague, whenever they took me out, or went to somewhere: we never walked outside. From the building to the parking lot, from the destination parking lot to the resto and vice versa.
Today, of course, I know that there are walkable cities too, I enjoy walking from my Chicago hotel to the office building :-) every single time I enjoy my US visits, but after a couple weeks I can't wait to get back to my 98% car free European life.
Also downtown austin is disgusting; maybe they were just stunned someone would be there on purpose before the sun goes down.
Hope you enjoyed the museum/trip though
