But why you're posting it under Show HN?
slowmotiony · 4 months ago
Because it's a cool hack, it's new and he is showing it to people on HN.

Musk after GPT5 launch: "OpenAI is going to eat Microsoft alive"

https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1953509998233104649

Anyone know why he said that?

Probably because of a mix of ketamine, magic mushrooms, ecstasy and adderall.

I've been using Adguard for a couple years and have had no problems. I think I've only seen ads slip through a couple times. If there's anyone who's able to compare, is there any real difference between these ad blockers?

I cancelled my Adguard subscription when I found out the founder and team are russian. That's big enough of a difference for me.

<16-colors IBM z/OS host terminal

This hasn't been virtualized?

slowmotiony · 5 months ago
From what I understand, they log in to a citrix-like webpage called IBM Host On Demand and then start a java applet which is essentially a 16-color 3270 emulator that's connected to z/OS mainframe.

I work with a lot of COBOL dinosaurs in the bank, I often like to watch them work on their 16-colors IBM z/OS host terminals, it's quite mesmerizing. Sometimes they show me some interesting code that was written before I was alive (I'm 36), or tell me stories about big mainframe incidents in the '80s, where they would get called in the middle of the night and flown to a different country to fix a bug because there was no remote desktop back then.

I have never heard of Grok using actual slurs. Controversial reaponses from the custom tuned Twitter bot, sure. But never as far as a slur.

It called the polish prime minister a cuck, a traitor and a fucking pussy just yesterday, and it called his wife a slut bitch

uBlock is open source. Some people might object AdGuard Russian foundation, but they have distanced themselves from the conflict and employ people in Ukraine.

Adguard is Russian? Thanks, just cancelled my subscription.

About a year ago the Ford CEO (who is also Chris Farley's cousin) explained why legacy car manufacturers could not make good software: each of their cars have 150+ modules, each of them from several suppliers, each of them writing their own software.

For every software change on each module, they have to go to a supplier to ask because of IP rights.

That is why Ford is/was trying to build a new generation of modules with in-house software which they never wrote before.

Also pertinent: "Why Ford decided to merge its next-gen architecture with its current platform" https://archive.ph/CR2Pv

Surely that's not why the interface is a laggy 10fps piece of shit and the touch latency is over 200ms. If my iPhone 3GS from 2009 can display the UI in 60fps without lagging like crazy then so can a $100k BMW that's straight from the factory. It doesn't need hundreds of extra modules.

> Consumers have had it with clunky, slow automotive technology, and the modern car is so computerized that a seamless electronic interface is an absolute necessity.

Say what? Give me a clunky manual interface with buttons and knobs any time over an electronic interface for which I have to look away from the road.

I wouldn't even mind replacing the analog meters with a computer screen if it worked well. Instead it's a laggy slideshow where the tachometer is just basically an arrow randomly appearing in different places a couple times per second.

Had the same problem while trying to decide which Roborock device to get. There's the S series, Saros series, Q Series and the Qrevo. And from the Qrevo, there's Qrevo Curv, Edge, Slim, Master, MaxV, Plus, Pro, S and without anything. The S Series had S8, S8+, S8 Pro Ultra, S8 Max Ultra, S8 MaxV Ultra. It was so confusing.
