Fun fact somebody reverse engineered the Proton Drive API by looking at their open source client and made a plug-in for RClone.

This is currently the only way to get Proton Drive on Linux.

simon1573 · 2 years ago
Oh! I didn’t now there was support for Proton Drive in rclone. I’m on a Visionary plan since they re-opened that for a while so now I get the use the storage too. Thanks :)

Great recommendation, I feel like most people on this site would enjoy his two short story compendiums. I’m not even a big SF reader but they’re among my favourite books I’ve read.

One of them is what Arrival (2016) is based on.

I do care about security, but if I lose my yubikey and i can't backup it, then I need to keep some (insecure) account recovery options enabled.

If I can backup my passkeys, then I can disable them.

simon1573 · 2 years ago
Yubikey advise you to buy two keys and keep one with you and one in a safe space, only used for recovery. That requires the service you use it on to allow multiple keys though, and that’s unfortunately not always the case.

Safari is WebKit based too since a few years back

Why should I put any faith in this VPN company if I don't even trust my own ISP?
simon1573 · 3 years ago
In Sweden (where Mullvad has its origin) IPSs are forced to keep data on its users, see Datalagringsdirektivet. It does not apply to VPN providers.

Geneva, CH, recommends that you arrive less than 2 hours before your flight departs.

If you are flying within Europe, without checking a bag, and have the QR code from your boarding pass, it always takes less than 30 minutes to get to the gate. Allowing an hour is more than safe.

Last summer was crazy for popular airports in Europe, with queues lasting for multiple hours just to get _to_ security. It was said that it was due to staff shortages due to layoffs during the pandemic though.

I'd say they're still a net win, generally. The ISP vs VPN service tracking who does cancel out (if you ignore privacy claims of VPN providers, vs ISPs generally not guaranteeing that at all), but for every other service I might consume, when I'm on VPN I'm no longer connecting from a unique IP that can have other identifying information tagged to it.
simon1573 · 3 years ago
To add to that: in Sweden (which is generally pretty ok in regards to privacy and rights) ISPs are required to store traffic for 6 months, while VPN providers are not.

I like innovation and this certainly is clever. But do I really need it? I agree that it can be hard to shift cleanly but after I wiggle the levers a bit it all works out.
simon1573 · 4 years ago
It feels really nice though. They are always exact and all you do is press a button, no lever action needed.

Sorely disappointed. I came to see pics of the history athletic fashion for women and I saw ONE picture of a huge raincoat and the rest was an advertisement for a book.

Nice! It's one of things I really wish I had a use case for just to excuse myself to own one.

How much did you spend on replacement parts?
