No, I don’t agree. And Linux does run Windows software and games; I use this ability all the time.

Are there really people who read that and think “ALL Windows software and games” is implied? Bizarre to me.

Yes. If you say you’re compatible with Windows software and games, my expectation as a user is that everything “just works”.

I've been looking to replace Superhuman recently. None of their AI or Team features matter to me. I just wanted what they originally set out to build -- a super fast, keyboard driven, desktop email client. There are daily paper cut bugs and search issues that have persisted for many years, and I'm not going to stick around through this transition which will surely make the product worse.

What do folks like for desktop email that's keyboard driven? At this point I almost want to go back to Pine ;)

Mimestream on Mac implements GMail's keyboard shortcuts so there was no learning curve for me and I'm able to enjoy a desktop app experience.

The App Store Search and iCloud Ads are relatively recent thing. The focus on tracking and invasion of privacy is also a refined version of it. Their whole PR campaign from 2017 to 2020 against ads. ( And it was more targeting Facebook Ads without saying it. Which Apple plan to destroy ) Somewhere between 2019 - 2022 They literally have to come out and said to say they are not against ads but only against tracking because the whole Ad industry was furious so they have calm things down.

Here is another angle. If Apple could successfully destroy the In App Ads industry, which they earn nothing from, and force those value into subscription, who will benefit most? Remember Apple tried iAds and earn a percentage of it but failed.

People should at least read PG's Submarine [1] to understand how modern PR and media works. Once you have that understanding the lens of reading anything about Apple becomes a little different.

I think you've got your timeline mixed up. App Store search ads debuted in 2016, prior to your entire narrative.
rwc commented on Apple M4 MacBook Air review: I have no notes   arstechnica.com/apple/202... · Posted by u/tosh

I wonder if I'm imagining it but the keyboard on the M4 Air feels better than the one on the M2 Air. Travel feels "better" (I can't pinpoint how to describe it though) and the keys feel less slippery but that might just be how a clean, new keyboard feels.

I could not find anything in reviews about the keyboard being improved other than that the M4 Air keyboard has a strike-through on the speaker icon on the F10 key now.

When I owned an M1 Air the keys felt "thin" and "hollow" when bottoming out, versus the Pros which have always felt slightly softer without losing responsiveness. You can hear the difference between the keyboards at full speed typing. The M1 Air sounded cheaper to me. Can't speak to M4 Air.

Does Apple require an Apple ID/iCloud account to set up a Mac? I thought that was a difference with windows 11?

They do not

This is such a dramatic turnaround from the way Apple has positioned itself in the last few years you have to really wonder about their confidence level for in-house AI efforts.

An alternative read is that AI in its current form can produce such unpredictable results they're content for now to use Google as a scapegoat for any oddities.

It isn't my responsibility to adapt to your slow day. Keep it to yourself, be a professional. This "trend" seems little more than just immaturity.

It probably won’t be long before they are forced to brick the O2 functionality of existing watches as well. Why don’t they just pay up?
rwc · 2 years ago
Because the O2 sensor was a COVID-era feature that nobody cares about now and moves zero units. Soon Apple will have definitive confirmation in the form of Watch sales data.
