Argentina is mostly white, Christian and doesn't have any part in the internecine blood feuds that roil South Asia or the middle east. Lots of land, and well educated. No history of slavery (well at least not like its neighbor Brazil). So, yeah, it'd be a great addition to the USA. I'd take it.
To expand on my previous point Argentina seems like one of America's most poorly governed states at the local level - New Jersey. High level of local corruption, etc. And NJ is full of Italians and so is Argentina. It'd be like admitting a giant-size NJ. I'll take it!
I doubt this would happen. Americans don't want a place that is as chaotic and corrupt. If they can get their act together there is a chance they could join, but until that happens there is no way it would happen.

The short answer is no, they do not have to spend at least 6 months a year in the U.S. We have many clients whose parents essentially live in two countries. Certain easy steps just need to be taken in advance.
Back in the late 90's I had a friend who wanted to open a high-end Italian furniture shop. Dude knew nothing about furniture or retailing. He said "you can afford it so you should lend it to me". I knew the money would never be paid back, and the friendship would be over. So I kept the money, as the friendship would be lost either way.
Thought the same myself. There was a skunkworks documentary a long time ago with engineers who worked on the program. Their cover was TV technicians or something else bland. He said one time he was approached by a women at a bar who was way out of his league. She was pushy and questioned about his work for a while. The engineer always thought it was a test by the government.
If he's bidding on jobs, he's not exactly a union welder. He's a small business owner and in that case I agree things can definitely go south for various reasons.
I think bidding in this case means he puts his name down for jobs that are sent to the union hiring hall- and the jobs are allocated on the basis of seniority. Fewer jobs impacts those lower on the seniority list.
Undocumented immigrants tend to be an overall good for the citizen economy since we can exploit them, charge them sales tax etc, and then not offer them public services in return. Hopefully the cheap construction labor will improve the housing situation in the US.
Undocumented immigrants have the same access to public services such as public education, medical care at hospitals, access to court systems, police, fire, etc.
