Doesn't matter what testing exists. More scale. More complexity. More Bugs.

Its like building a gigantic factory farm. And then realizing that environment itself is the birthing chamber and breeding ground of superbugs with the capacity to wipe out everything.

I used to work at a global response center for big tech once upon a time. We would get hundreds of issues, we couldn't replicate cause we literally have to set up our own govt or airline or bank or telco to test certain things.

So I used to joke with the corporate robots to just hurry up and take over govts, airlines, banks and telcos already, cause thats the only path to better control.

'Just werks' is great marketing but not backed up by reality. I have the displeasure of being handed an M1 Mac for a new ML and NLP job.

Let's not even talk about the issues osx-arm64 architecture brings for DevOps.

Bluetooth: devices do not disconnect when the device ID put to sleep. If I don't disconnect my headphones before leaving my laptop, I can't connect to my phone. My guess this is done for some Apple Bluetooth features, anyone using not-Apple is SooL.

HiDPI: Not using an Apple monitor? Too bad no hdpi scaling for you.

Yeah the hardware quality and design is nice, software and OS is hot garbage. My Linux Mint ThinkPad had higher UX polish than Macos Monterey.

Regarding the Bluetooth thing, it's indeed very annoying. I've found this utility that helps: https://github.com/odlp/bluesnooze

There's not much to say more than, incredible, and I can't wait. I have got to be honest, for some reason I thought Stardew Valley was all that we'd ever see from ConcernedApe. I'm surprised and delighted that there's more to come! Looks great!
roemerb · 4 years ago
After seeing the news interviews with him, I thought the same. He did seem a little burned out to me after dedicating his entire life to Stardew for so long. Really impressive that he still has the energy to start an entirely new game!

Unless I'm wrong, it appears to be a "milestone" in that they sent human genome data rather some other kind of data (I'm not sure how that is significant) and no new quantum cryptography breakthrough has been achieved?

Yeah I read this the same way. The article is very vague and does not mention anything concrete at all.
roemerb commented on Apple will attempt to jam Facebook's web-tracking tools   bbc.com/news/technology-4... · Posted by u/NoB4Mouth
onion2k · 7 years ago
the entire FB and Google business models cannot suddenly change to move away from user data collection

They can though - they can go back to untargetted advertising based on page content as they were doing 10 years ago. All the personal tracking data is a layer on top of that tech aiming to improve the 'targettedness' of adverts. Nothing in the online ad industry really needs any of that personal data, and arguably it doesn't actually make many ads more effective anyway.

roemerb · 7 years ago
Unfortunately, even if they did that, a lot of their other products would suffer as things like Assistant etc. depend on the personalised data collected from their users internet traffic.

That lens is not exactly inexpensive. I think it says more about the importance of a good lens.
roemerb · 7 years ago
Haha true, but since the resolution is 128x128, you probably won't see a quality difference with a cheaper lens.

Pretty cool system. Considering making a VPS for this or something. Frontend can definitely use some work though.

Great great great great article. Never seen so much facts and analysis in an Ethereum/ICO post (aside from Vitaliks maybe).

This whole ICO craze is going to hurt Eth in the long run, just like fraudulent campaigns hurt Kickstarter. People need to realize those ICOs are completely overhyped right now, lacking anything worth investing in the most cases.

Oh my God... A positive comment on HN? Is this reality?

I agree with you wholeheartedly though sir. Great article. It's just like the crazy funding rounds Silicon Valley startups have these days!
