It would be great to run this on a collection of interesting threads over different periods and not just one snapshot. For example, the thread from the day Trump got elected in 2016, the thread from the day of brexit and so on. Those are the times when people make many passionate predictions about how the future will play out, be good to see them retroactively scored.

Assuming this keeps running, I suppose we just have to wait about a year.

Have you tried Ruby on Rails. That's my experience with Rails. Everytime I've tried something else (for web dev), I just felt too spoiled with Ruby & Rails and went back. This includes Django and Phoenix (Elixir).

Edit: The only thing that Rails lacks is a decent Admin UI included as part of Rails. I know that there are some external gems that can be used, yet that's something that should be part of the framework in my opinion.

Even before you get to the lacking Admin UI, the first thing Rails asks me to do is implement authentication. Coming from a true batteries-included framework like Django that feels like a complete non-starter.

I'm a Londoner who voted for Khan. There's a difference in that contrary to all the scapegoat stuff in the right wing press, Khan has had largely sensible middle of of the road policies. And where he has deviated from the average, on air pollution, it's been stuff I'm in favour of - I have desire to get sick/die from that.

Mamdani seems like a nice guy but some of his policies seem a bit bonkers - state owned retail outlets and the like.

Isn't it proposing running like five grocery stores to test? That's not bonkers or radical. Or even expensive. It seems like the type of experiment HN would love.

It's OK, we'll sh*t out 5 more sequels to Shrek with a few celeb cameos and maybe another 20 fast n furious' and the hollywood economy will be just fine.
rkuykendall-com · 4 months ago
Not a great example. The 5th (and most recent) Shrek movie has the highest RT of the franchise and is largely considered a masterpiece.

I'm sure Japan, and other countries doing similar things, don't like the tariffs either. Hopefully actions like this will change voter behavior, either at the polls or to embolden voters to do whatever it is they can to tell their elected officials to revert these changes. Maybe this is a drop in the bucket, but on the other hand, maybe Japan doesn't want to/can't make a bigger a splash.

In any case, it is rare that Americans face consequences for bad behavior of American foreign policy. Hopefully Americans get more engaged and introspective this time around.

I would rather take stairs instead a really long escalator, it's scary af (when going down).

Bluey is great, agreed.

I'd say Bluey is a better Peppa Pig. Now, hear me out -- it's surprising how many gags meant for grownups are there in Peppa Pig (e.g. "one must become one with the mud" is not humor for kids), but the art is... well, it's intentionally flat and boring. But Bluey has a lot of the same kind of humor, with visually appealing characters and world.

The creator of Bluey worked as an animator on Peppa Pig and wanted to create something like that for his home.

First great to have non US questions. This is how we see many quizzes as too local. Would you have objected to an American Football question?

But Ireland have won the Grand SLam 4 times so could appear in several postions

So not a good question.

As an American not into sports, the only Football question I think would be of such historical significance to match the rest on this list would be "US Holds First Superbowl" or something.
