Counterpoint, the US has better other systems. Such as the 1st,2nd,3rd largest air forces in the world.

Lots of Ukrainian commanders would happily trade FPV drones with grenades attached for mortar teams with lots of ammo and effective aircover.

Modern militaries need drones, but the swarms that everyone gushes over aren't that effective when a 1000 pound gorilla like the US Army turns up to play.

Yeah, I think it will be important to continue improving drone technology and have a plan to scale manufacturing in the event of a major conflict, but the lack of conventional air superiority is what has really brought this war to a stalemate.

Wouldn't it be weird if that didn't shape their perception? It's not surprising that people are less trusting when an authoritarian is in power.

But the assumptions should always be that one day someone like that could take power and gain access to that data.

That's like bolting new wings on a 777 after every flight. It's going to cost a LOT and you won't be able to just load up fuel/passengers and take off again.

I'm sure SpaceX will eventually fix the problem. They are well funded, the materials exist, and they have amazing engineers. They just haven't reached that point yet.

postingawayonhn · 2 months ago
'Cost a LOT' is relative though.

Expensive compared to a 777 flight? Sure. Expensive compared to every other moon capable rocket? No.

This is a vastly oversimplified take; Mars will be a monumental effort, far beyond what it takes to get to/from the moon.
postingawayonhn · 2 months ago
You'll need to launch more mass to get there but the technology isn't really any more complicated. It's also a more hospitable environment (reasonable gravity, day/night cycle, some atmosphere, water, etc.)

It is my understanding that land use (eg cutting down rain forest, draining wetlands) for pasture and soy are a big contributor to the carbon footprint of meat.
postingawayonhn · 5 months ago
Where land is converted there can be an increase. But for an existing farm with stable herd numbers the emission produced around (Methane > Carbon Dioxide > Grass > Methane > etc.).

Do you know if the mechanical position of the switch guarantees its electronic state without any possibility for hardware malfunction? If no, then you are claiming a person made one of the most grave acts of inhumanity ever.

This sounds to me like an electronics issue - an intermittent, inadvertent state transition likely due to some PCB component malfunction

postingawayonhn · 5 months ago
There is also audio of the pilots discussing the issue.

Well the age assurance is only for logged-in users, so they can just log out.
postingawayonhn · 6 months ago
The article doesn't quite spell it out but I assume you won't be able to turn off safe search unless you log in with a verified 18+ account.

Why are we buying further into the US closed garden? Why pay and then ask for permission from "daddy" before we can use our own toys?
postingawayonhn · 6 months ago
Because Europe doesn't produce anything comparable at present.

> Pakistan is not economically strong enough to participate in a war, and India is not interested

Proxy war between U.S. and China. We’re moving the naval assets that were bombing the Houthis. India seizing Pakistan-administered Kashmir cuts Islamabad off from China.

postingawayonhn · 7 months ago
The US isn't interested in picking sides. Historically it has tried to be friendly with both (though that hasn't always been easy).
