GP was saying that there are hardly far left politicians, saying that the few that exist are Sanders/AOC/DSA.

I was just pointing out that even these are not actual socialists, they're Democratic Socialists of the stripe you find in the mainstream in a lot of staunchly capitalist European nations. There are definitely zero literal far-left politicians, objectively speaking.

Socialist/social democrat are two related but distinct concepts are confusing for those not versed in political science, but their definitions have certainly not changed: democratic socialists for example don't advocate for communal ownership or central planning. The actual policies put forward by DSA candidates in the US, viewed through a political science analysis, are vanilla liberal. The only thing making them 'far left' is that actual far right monied interests have systematically dragged the Overton Window into a place where "public figure performing the Nazi salute on the capitol steps" is "controversial, in some circles" rather than "immediately career-ending."

The list i provided was of left wing politicians.

There are zero far left wing politicians in the US Congress. The far left is literally anti capitalist marxists.

I won't trust the Congress. Far left and far right are both pushing for more censorship

The US barely has any genuinely left-wing politicians (Bernie Sanders, AOC, DSA). There are no one who realistically could be called far left in any significant position of governing power.

I posted this

``` Hi ,Congrats on the launch. I built a free iOS app also which has chess puzzles.
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/knighty-chess-puzzles/id674524...
Would appreciate feedback. ```
Not sure if that's why it was moved to `stub for off topicness`. I wonder if it is some kind of categorisation logic based on text.
Why would you in 2025 only build for iOS?
> And, of course, they never even bothered to make sequels to The Matrix.
Like you, this is the reality I choose to inhabit.
The Matrix was an incredible film, still stands as an incredible film, but that sequel tease at the end? Should have been a tease, or perhaps a prompt, for the viewer’s imagination only.
There are no sequels to The Matrix.
Maybe we will see them and the last three seasons of Lost before we die
Nobody will undo whatever has been done to him. I don't know all of the specifics but I have spoken on HN here about my incarceration at much much much lower level facilities.
This man was at a USP and at other times other facilities. Those are places where even with the best intentions you are not expected to move in any capacity without serious safety concerns. We're talking "shower with your boots, a spotter and and a shank on you" environment without the slightest joke.
It took a while likely because Ross is non-violent and smart, but eventually he was unable to stay in general population to some capacity. My understanding is he has spent significant time in solitary confinement or PC - effectively the same thing at these facilities, very small single cell rooms with a slot in them and the minimum required 1 hour of "yard time" per day, most of which has been suspended to some degree due to COVID and the slow response.
The end result is this guy for sure has spent months to years in a very small cell, possibly without even seeing the sun. I didn't see the sun "for reals" for 6 months. A keyboard warrior can swoop in here and talk about how they cannot do this or how X time restrictions exist, but the reality is they just need to move you back to your cell on paper for a day and then back in or trick you into signing some kind of paperwork consenting.
My heart goes out to both of them and I am reminded that I was the person that help mined the first 1FREEROSS Bitcoin vanity address to help crowd fund his defense. Lyn never gave up the slightest even during times that were fucking impossible to imagine.
He tried to have someone's life violently taken away. He should have rotted in there.
Suppose insurance company doctors could lose their medical license if too many of their decisions are reversed in court. I imagine these doctors would command higher pay for their increased level of personal risk, but would end up making better choices for the insured. What does HN think?
What about if we instead of building more levels on top of this already falling building we build a new one a few blocks over. With blackjack, hookers, and free* and humane health care.
* not really free of course, but you pay less on average than you do today and you do it on your taxes instead of to some profit chasing private company -- and most importantly those who don't pay today will have equal access to it as well.
What is EEUU?
nso · 8 months ago
In Mexico that's the US, so maybe the poster is from Spain.
The doubling of the letters (e.g., "EE." for "Estados" and "UU." for "Unidos") follows a convention in Spanish where plural abbreviations are indicated by duplicating the letters. The correct form would be "EE. UU." This practice aligns with historical Latin abbreviations (e.g., "SS." for "Sancti" (plural) or "S." for "Sanctus" (singular)).
The CEO is primarily responsible to [maximize profits for] shareholders, not necessarily to benefit patients. If shareholders wish for better care to be provided to patients, I’m sure they would be happy to accept a lower rate of return on their investment.
nso · 8 months ago
It's almost like profits shouldn't be part of the equation when we are talking about humans lives and health.
Noone should enrich themselves on others not getting the health care they need, and those who do it today are morally bankrupt -- and society should fight back.
TBH, this feels like some kind of psychotic break. He just kind of stops posting out of nowhere. On twitter there are some attempts from others to reach him that seem concerned for his wellbeing: https://x.com/DanielleFong/status/1866211089660477490
26? I was thinking schizophrenia as soon as I heard the age. The weirdness of the situation, unclear motive, and how it seems very out of character all scream onset of some kind of mental illness yes.
First post and it turned into a US politics discussion. Great.
What do you think will fix it?
