This is amazing, those things are an absolutely nasty parasite from out of a sci-fi horror movie. If you drink contaminated water with them it releases its larva into your body which burrow out of your digestive systems into your body consuming your nutrients for a year or more as it grows, then migrates towards your legs and creates debilitatingly painful blisters trying to force its way out over the course of weeks, and when you submerge the wound in water to relieve the burning pain it releases its larva into the water to infect others. Also don't try to pull it out even when its halfway out of your body or it will snap and die and give you a super nasty infection as it decays inside of you.

This is one of the more horrifying things I've read in recent memory.

So, me putting butter on my oatmeal is not gross and decadent, but actually the new health food craze?

Nuts are also an option.

As is often the case, important defense mechanisms feel awful when they arise in the course of the worst people defending the worst people. They're still important defense mechanisms, and the UK's badly misnamed "Online Safety Act" (which will make people less safe) needs to die and never come back. But still, ugh.

AD: Whats holding you back from using it as your primary?
noman-land · 17 days ago
Honestly it's mostly lack of other users to interact with. It's my same problem with things like gitea. Someone needs an "account" to participate in your project.

I'm also not sure how to sync issues and pull requests with Github.

It's largely I haven't researched deeply enough yet.

Radicle is really cool. I've been running a node for months but havent pulled the trigger to use it as primary yet.

We need better forges and they need to be p2p to survive. p2p is the only viable future for the web.

That just means the majority of apps don’t actually serve much of a purpose

What if the future of apps is serving a few dozen instead of a few billion?

What's the point of sniping bots when eBay has automatic bidding? Counter-sniping is essentially built-in, if your price ceiling is higher then a snipers then you're guaranteed to win even if they bid at the last millisecond.
noman-land · 18 days ago
The act of bidding itself shows interest and raises the price.

I love gliding but had a near-miss experience and am scared to fly a glider plane ever since. Statistically it's about 40x times more dangerous than driving.

What was the near miss?

Really amazing video. Unfortunately this article is like 60% over my head. Regardless, I actually love reading jargon-filled statements like this that are totally normal to the initiated but are completely inscrutable to outsiders.

"That data was then brought into Houdini, where the post production team used CG Nomads GSOPs for manipulation and sequencing, and OTOY’s OctaneRender for final rendering. Thanks to this combination, the production team was also able to relight the splats."
