I might be misremembering, but AFAIK, that kind of surveillance mostly worked because many companies didn't bother encrypting datacenter-to-datacenter traffic, thinking that those networks are trusted. That mistake has since been rectified though.

With almost everything going over TLS these days and HTTPS being the norm, even for server-to-server APIs, it's much harder to snoop on traffic without the collaboration of one of the endpoints, and the more companies you ask for that kind of collaboration, the higher your risk of an unhappy employee becoming a whistleblower.

Unless you have a master key which decrypts all traffic.

I thought this was an unhinged parody of a design site, kinda surprised it's a real thing. Unfortunately the design isn't for me, things look off center and the overall "weight" of components feels off.

Agreed. I’ve spent considerable time on scale-based design, and 1.618 always feels too large of an interval.

If someone takes a loan out against an unrealized gain, that should immediately trigger a tax event.

The real solution though is for the legislative branch to not be beholden to those same people and be able to quickly and effectively close tax loopholes as they are discovered.

That would instantly wipe out most leverage from the stock market, and from a casual bystander perspective, it would be a great thing.

Rooibus. It’s not decaf, it just has no caffeine. I drink it all the time since giving up coffee.

Rooibos is not tea in the strict sense of the word, it’s a completely different plant with a different set of bioactive alkaloids.

”The MeOH extract exhibited significant inhibition of the major human CYP450 isozymes (CYP3A4, CYP1A2, CYP2D6, CYP2C9, and CYP2C19). The strongest inhibition was observed by the extract for CYP3A4 (IC50 1.7 ± 0.1 μg/mL) followed by CYP2C19 (IC50 4.0 ± 0.3 μg/mL). Among the tested phytochemicals, the most potent inhibitors were isovitexin on CYP3A4 (IC50 3.4 ± 0.2 μM), vitexin on CYP2C9 (IC50 8.0 ± 0.2 μM), and thermopsoside on CYP2C19 (IC50 9.5 ± 0.2 μM). The two major, structurally related compounds aspalathin and nothofagin exhibited a moderate pregnane-X receptor (PXR) activation, which was associated with increased mRNA expression of CYP3A4 and CYP1A2, respectively. These results indicate that a high intake of nutraceuticals containing rooibos extracts may pose a risk of herb–drug interactions when consumed concomitantly with clinical drugs that are substrates of CYP enzymes.”

I don't have real context here, but I can imagine that a platform where the hardware costs millions of dollars, will be booted up in "Production" exactly once, and is guaranteed to be physically destroyed before it hits 1 day of uptime, just "Give it 128GB of RAM and YOLO (literally)" is great advice!

Note: 128GB of DRAM may add another million dollars to the build cost by 2027 at the current derivative of the $/GB curve

Who needs to garbage collect? Just leak memory until the system dies! That strategy seems to be good enough for claude code, anyway.

If it’s good enough for missile guidance systems, it’s good enough for me.

Can we have another table for total content of random substances acting as monoamine oxidase A or B inhibitors for coffee, tea, soda and more?

I evolved to eat fish and meat killed. So did all other carnivores. I'm happy to continue eating and shitting and sleeping and having sex, I don't want supplements to replace food and AI to replace intellect and IVF to replace sex. I want to be alive.
