If you're in California NYT is violating state law: https://www.cnet.com/news/companies-must-let-customers-cance...

The law applies to all companies and publishers with paying customers in the state.

This conversation happened online, so I'm not sure this is technically against the law.

Anyone working on this reading the thread? Can we ever expect an extension that will allow the far better tab management that Chrome has? Namely: Being able to scroll between tabs with the scroll wheel, and being able to select multiple tabs with shift/ctrl to drag them/merge them/close them/etc.

It's crazy to me that Firefox's original selling point was tab management, and today Chrome's is so much better.

I am the project mentor for the Google Summer of Code project to implement multi-select tabs.

See the bottom of the table at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Community:SummerOfCode18 for more info and please apply if you want to see this added to Firefox! :)

Someone should make a browser extension that will automatically (or provides a button to quickly) load the cached version when a site is down

Edit: I just made a super simple bookmarklet that does it: http://mikelyons.org/2017/06/12/Google-Cache-Javascript-Shor...

- It takes a "market based" allocation strategy which allows "cash bonuses and similar compensation" to be included. This is a joke.

Honest question, why is this a joke?

Employer-provided healthcare is considered compensation, and the "cost" is somewhat determined at will depending on creative accounting.

It's interesting that the Paul brings up the trademark license clause regarding for-pay distribution.

If you are using the Mozilla Mark(s) for the unaltered binaries you
are distributing, you may not charge for that product.
While it restricts a freedom that Debian is unlikely to exercise, it's still a restriction. Presumably, that makes the trademark license indigestible to the Debian foundation?

msujaws · 10 years ago
As long as Debian is altering the binaries this clause does not apply.

That's 54 things fixed per day, that's quite a lot. Props to Detroit on making their data so explorable[1], according to the data[2] it looks like the app is working.

Also this heatmap[3] absolutely destroys my Firefox.

1. https://data.detroitmi.gov/Government/Improve-Detroit-Submit...

2. https://data.detroitmi.gov/resource/fwz3-w3yn.json?$select=i...

2. https://data.detroitmi.gov/Government/Improve-Detroit-Submit...

Edit: That's embarrassing, I originally said 5.4 things fixed a day (which is not that good)

msujaws · 10 years ago
How did you get 5.4 things fixed per day? They said over 10,000 issues fixed in six months.

10,000 / 182 = 54.94. It looks like you had a decimal error.

It looks like some of the user experience ideas from Google Messenger have made their way to Google Hangouts. How long does Google plan on supporting two Android SMS/MMS apps?

I've been using Messenger and it's pretty nice. I especially like the ability to search through my messages, something that the Hangouts v4 screenshot doesn't show.

I've been click to play on Firefox for a long time now. Faster, less annoying ads (I am okay with nonannoying ads; they help pay for the site), and sites rarely need flash anyway. I think only Gmail and github (for click to copy) need it
msujaws · 10 years ago
Note, click-to-copy will eventually not need Flash :)
