- Fail at the above.

I don’t think this is what happened with DeepSeek. It seems that they’ve genuinely optimized their model for efficiency and used GPUs properly (tiled FP8 trick and FP8 training). And came out on top.

The impact on the NVIDIA stock is ridiculous. DeepSeek took the advantage of flexible GPU architecture (unlike inflexible hardware acceleration).

This is what I still don't understand, how much of what they claim has been actually replicated? From what I understand the "50x cheaper" inference is coming from their pricing page, but is it actually 50x cheaper than the best open source models?

Seeing how many broker related posts are in the top right now, I gather that HN went all in on the "AI trade" :D

Parks and Recreation, The Vampire Diaries and Modern Family all started in 2009. I blame it on Obama because he was President at the time.

It makes one wonder where all of them would have been if John McCain had won the election.

If you look around this thread, you'll see plenty of people suggesting exactly that - that it's actually better to focus on carbon capture, that it's more doable than reduction etc.

The reality is just the opposite: the only option for stopping climate change is to reduce CO2 emissions completely. Now, if we were at a point where we're emitting some few tens of millions of tonnes instead of the 40B we emit today, maybe then carbon capture to help offset the last few trickles would make some sense - but not before then, not in any way shape or form.

How these people self-defend themselves internally? Usually the answer is simple, along the lines of "oh, just sociopaths"... I mean you have to go to conferences, tweet, interact with people, get articles written about you, basically become famous, even build tech or at least organize that, they often have families, and basically ALL burn at the end, like lose everything.
