Do you use AI tools at all?

I am slightly astonished someone makes these sorts of comments in 2025. AI has been remarkably useful for many many things across many industries; I’m curious what you think

Google it.

There's a bunch of scientific papers talking about that.

Bet that plenty of those researchers have written python programs they've uploaded to GitHub and you just got one of their programs regurgitated

It's not intelligence mate, it's just copying an existing program.

maxdoop · 9 months ago
And how would you define intelligence then?

But maybe if both sides are using AI bots, then the two bots fall on the same level of authenticity, and then it's not a problem.

I have a feeling that shortly it's gonna be all robots talking to robots.

What takes me out of the show is that the premise collapses after a moment of critical thinking: US citizens cannot sign away basic civil rights in a contract. If you signed a contract wherein you agreed to stay in a location for a certain number of hours no matter what was done to you, that contract would not be enforceable.

And what possible justification could a company have for blocking any communication between an innie and an outie, even if no confidential information was involved? The only justification would have to be “because we want to be free to abuse your innie, duh!”

> it's definitely _not_ the _monetary_ solution

Does this also take into account the current price of eggs in the same product category? i.e., organic, free-range eggs?

For current Erewhon prices, 8 eggs a day is $11.30 in free eggs a day, so $339 in eggs a month?

https://erewhon.com/subcategory/33022/eggs - $16.99 a dozen

Erewhon is probably THEE most expensive place lol

this is the question that the greeks wrestled with over 2000 years ago. at the time there were the sophists (modern llm equivalents) that could speak persuasively like a politician.

over time this question has been debated by philosophers, scientists, and anyone who wanted to have better cognition in general.

So how can you claim what an LLM is doing if we cannot define it regardless?

the machine is fooling you with a mimicry of reasoning. and you are falling for it.
maxdoop · a year ago
What is reasoning? What is understanding? Do humans do either? How do you know?

"AI is a really smart but inexperienced person who also lies frequently." Careful. Here "smart" means "amazing at pattern-matching and incredibly well-read, but has zero understanding of the material."
maxdoop · a year ago
And how is what humans do any different ? What does it mean to understand ? Are we pattern matching as well?

> You'll know AGI is here when the exercise of creating tasks that are easy for regular humans but hard for AI becomes simply impossible.

No, we won't. All that will tell us is that the abilities of the humans who have attempted to discern the patterns of similarity among problems difficult for auto-regressive models has once again failed us.

maxdoop · a year ago
So then what is AGI?
