I was in Japan last month, tipped 4 times, once it ended up awkward with the waiter insisting me to take it back, the other 3 times they accepted it gladly and thanked.

Why would you want to spread tipping culture?

If Google Maps would like to hire me so the km/miles switch can remember I only ever want to see distances in km, my contact details are in my HN profile.

I must have changed that back from miles once a fortnight since Google Maps launched 20 years ago. That's 500 times. Totally ridiculous for a company who core goal is profiling their users...

This, but with 24 hour clock.

I think WFH is good for some people but not good at all for others.

For example, I don't usually do well at all. I get distracted all the time, my brain doesn't seem to feel it's in work mode and so on.

I actually prefer to commute (I take the tube, read and listen to music; my brain is gradually turning on) and work from the office, have some chitchat, meet new colleagues, enjoy the snacks and beverages and then once I'm done I go home and the commute back is like a shutdown of my work brain.

To each his own I guess, I highly dislike polarising opinions (WFH is the best for everyone! or Everyone should be in the office all time!).

I agree with you. When I work at home I'm barely half as efficient, and I get depressed after a couple of days. My brain is just not wired for it.

Does the salary info include investment income or income from other sources, or only salaries from corporations? If you work as a barista would your taxable information be available as well?
marzipanWhale · 2 years ago
You can see the following three numbers:

Wealth, Income, Calculated tax

Here's what it says for me (I've censored some stuff with ):

Born: 19** Wealth: 5** *** Postal code/area: **** Income: 4** *** Tax Municipality: *** Calculated tax: 1** ***

To avoid the social consequences amongst your peers? Perhaps that's not an issue in Norway, but it's an issue in the US.

I don't want my coworkers to know how much I make because if I'm making substantially more or less than them, it will affect how they perceive and interact with me.

marzipanWhale · 2 years ago
Norwegian here.

This isn't really an issue, as far as I can tell. I feel in general most people get paid fairly, so if you're doing the same work as someone else the pay won't be that different.

I've always shared and talked salary with my coworkers, both when I was earning the least and the most of my coworkers. When I earned the least, they helped me with how to approach my boss for a raise; and now when I'm the best paid, I help my coworkers get what they deserve.

How can anybody even use BitCoin without mixing? Isn't this an equivalent of giving everybody all over the world permanent read-only access to your bank account?
marzipanWhale · 2 years ago
I've used bitcoin in the past and never saw the reason for mixing. I don't really care if people track down my purchases. Anonymity is not why I use bitcoin.

I'm not sure why, but Youtube has still not recommended any of MrBeast's videos to me. Am I really that far from his target audience?

I got rid of my last car many years ago when cars still had casette players. What kind of controls do you really need in a car? I realize that a lot of cars have built in GPS now, but in my opinion all controls that require typing or looking at a screen should be disabled until the car is stopped.

Hold down the space bar and you can move the cursor wherever you want, also on Android. I'm surprised more people don't know about this feature.
marzipanWhale · 2 years ago
I know about this in Swiftkey, but since I'm using more than one language, this action is used to change languages instead. It's unfortunate because moving the cursor is very useful.
