magic123_ commented on Bus stops here: Shanghai lets riders design their own routes   sixthtone.com/news/101707... · Posted by u/anigbrowl

This is really brilliant — like desire paths, but for transit. Obviously execution will be challenging, but the concept is fantastic, and China/Shanghai seems like one of the few places with the requisite density & state capacity to actually make this work.

Generally I think that the design of public spaces has SO MUCH room to be improved by just responding to the wisdom of the crowd.

A few years back, Citymapper launched a bus line in london where the route was defined based on the amount of data they had about desired paths from their users that were badly covered by the existing network. https://citymapper.com/news/1800/introducing-the-citymapper-...

I didn't follow closely but it looks like the project got canceled, as https://citymapper.com/smartbus returns a 404.

99.99999% of DJs have been performing a premade mix since iPods have become popular. The knob twiddling DJs are hilarious. Ukraine, oddly, seems to be pumping out tons of attractive women dancing off beat behind setups that aren’t even powered on half the time on YouTube. I enjoy the mixes in the background while working and occasionally watch some footage for the laughs. Shake it if you’ve got it.

As always, it depends on what style you're talking about. For mainstream EDM? Sure I won't fight your figure. But for underground techno (among many others), you're delusional if you think the majority of djs play pre-recorded mixes.

It's way worse in the case of YouTube/Twitch than OnlyFans IMO. People have been paying for pornography/sex for millennia. It's just part of human nature. On the other hand an 11 year old throwing money at MrBeast...why?
magic123_ · a year ago
While I agree with the general sentiment of your comment, the specific example you used is not really relevant: MrBeast is not on twitch, and his revenue comes from youtube ads and brand partnerships. He also has 'classic' merch and several companies (burgers, chocolate bars), but he doesn't bring in any money from subscriptions/donations the way twitch streamers or onlyfan creators do.

  >>>> A LOT of jokes like this but NOT MANY [...]
  > Unless you're claiming that NO-ONE EVER makes jokes OF ANY SORT about the other two big Abrahamic religions, but, I mean, er, THEY DO.
Again you change what I say and then you use it to blatantly lie. There are jokes on the other two but it is very, very rare and usually very, very mild. And you know exactly what I mean.

I'm done. I don't care about your answers out of cognitive dissonance or straight out malice.

And final note: I'm not even Christian.

magic123_ · 2 years ago
Just because you know exactly what you mean (which in itself could be questioned), it's just ridiculous to expect anyone else to.

FWIW where I'm from and in my social circles, the other two religions get joked about way more.

At scale it’s incredibly hard. Impossibly hard even. So hard no one has successfully solved it! Ever!

But what you’re describing is Valve’s Overwatch system for Counter-Strike. It’s a key component of the anti-cheat ecosystem. But cheating is still rampant in CS and one of the biggest complaints.

magic123_ · 2 years ago
Unfortunately the Overwatch system has been disabled for years, and we currently have no reason to think it will be reopened for CS2.

I take this opportunity to share this great talk about Valve's usage of deep learning to fight cheating in CS:GO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTiP0zKF9bc

magic123_ commented on Side-stepping Skill: Valve forbids hardware automations on CS2   counter-strike.net/newsen... · Posted by u/magic123_
magic123_ · 2 years ago
Some context: one of the most important skills to master in CS is "counter-strafing", aka stopping your current movement at the right timing, to have perfect accuracy when shooting. If you're currently strafing right, you have to lift your finger from D and tap A before being able to shoot accurately.

Recently, some hardware manufacturers included features at the firmware level to make this automatic for you: if you currently have D pressed, and just tap A, the keyboard will stop pressing D for you, even if your finger is still on the key. There were a lot of discussion withing the community, and the professional scene, about whether or not these hardware features should be allowed or not, as they remove a big part of what's needed to actually master movement in the game.

Yesterday, Valve stepped in and decided that they wouldn't allow these features, kicking you from servers if you're detected to use them. At initial release it looks like false positives are possible as many people reported getting kicked without using them, but this should be fixed soon. Another issue people have is that they effectively also banned "jumpthrows", aka binds allowing you to throw nades perfectly everytime, a feature that had been allowed (and even somewhat implemented by Valve themselves) for years.

They never claimed it was Scarlett Johansson's voice though.

If the objective is to absolutely always avoid reading between the lines, then yes you're correct.
