labrador commented on Trump says U.S. will not approve solar or wind power projects   cnbc.com/2025/08/20/trump... · Posted by u/donsupreme

Anyone who has road tripped around the United States knows that it is mostly empty with vast tracts of unused land. The idea that solar is wasting valuable land is one of the stupidest ideas Trump has ever had.

But we know he is being disengenuous. Before the election he invited oil company executives and owners to Mara Lago and told them if they donated to his reelection he would make it worth their while.

"Trump pressed oil executives to give $1 billion for his campaign, people in industry say "This is a scandal" and "an indictment of the system" — but probably legal, one legal watchdog told POLITICO."

I’m glad you made it man. I don’t know how much longer I can hold out

I feel for you. Try therapies like CBT. Check yourself in if you have to. You are not alone by a long shot.

> The money is gone now

How did it happen? Millions in 80's sounds like a whole lot of money...

> but I'm happy with enough to live comfortably.

Congrats!

I spent it all looking for a cure: therapy, travel, spiritual journies like road trips. My needs are low so the social security I paid into here in America is enough for me now. I'm happy like Woz.

I used to be a software millionaire back in the 80's. My discovery is that money does buy happiness so the phrase should actually be "Money does buy happiness, but can't cure clinical depression." The list of wealthy people who have committed suicide is long, starting with my contemporaries Kurt Cobain, Chris Cantrell, Anthony Bourdain... and almost me. The money is gone now but I'm happy with enough to live comfortably.

It seems to me that AI companions are an extension of a much older phaenomenon of tulpamancy

I was dating someone and after a while I started to feel something was not going well. I exported all the chats timestamped from the very first one and asked a big SOTA LLM to analyze the chats deeply in two completely different contexts. One from my perspective, and another from his perspective. It shocked me that the LLM after a long analysis and dozen of pages, always favored and accepted the current "user" persona situation as the more correct one and "the other" as the incorrect one. Since then I learned not to trust them anymore. LLMs are over-fine tuned to be people pleasers, not truth seekers, not fact and evidence grounded assistants. Just need to run everything important in a double-blind way and mitigate this.

It sounds like you were both right in different ways and don't realize it because you're talking past each other. I think this happens a lot in relationship dynamics. A good couples therapist will help you reconcile this. You might try that approach with your LLM. Have it reconcile your two points of view. Or not, maybe they are irreconcilable as in "irreconcilable differences"

This is from Jun 8 so "Just" is misleading. It caused some buzz back then, but did not pull the plug on AI hype. What might have done so was the release of GPT-5 by OpenAI that failed to meet expectations, especially those who were expecting a huge leap in capabilities towards AGI. I'd say those fever dreams have been dashed.
