I see more people jump for Codeberg these days.
jzb · 15 days ago
I love Codeberg, but they're struggling with growth/scaling -- if folks want to see Codeberg succeed, they need to open their wallets.

Um, yeah, but I'm still trying to figure out if it's funny.
jzb · 22 days ago
If you didn't laugh, I would say "not funny".

I didn't find it funny, myself, but I did find it to be a pretty good takedown. It's not funny (to me, anyway) because "humor equals tragedy plus time". It'll be funny in 10 years if/when we're not living in an AI slop hellscape and being constantly bombarded with AI marketing/having it shoved down our collective throats. Right now it's just "ugh, so true".

To defend @bagacrap, they said they tend to be a bit suspicious.

And I am, too, when I hear this weekly from the same person (and when I ask back next day, if she recovered, she asks me "from what"?)

I'm all in for more times off for parents, more PTOs, sabbaticala, etc. But come on, having "a cold" twice a month... IT IS suspicious.

jzb · 23 days ago
You've added two conditions not present in the original comment.

Some people may "abuse" such things, but I'd say most people legit have days when they're under the weather and feel fine the next day.

Also, if you have kids in daycare or something? A cold twice a month is pretty much the norm as I understand it. I love my nieces, but there's a 50/50 chance each time I see them I'm going to wind up with a minor cold. Toddlers are awfully efficient at spreading disease...

I do tend to be a bit suspicious of the one-day "under the weather" events.

However I do think we need to make extra room for parents (I am not one, yet). I'm going to need a doctor who's younger than me when I'm 80+

Folks could always just disappear instead of announcing these things, but is that better? And as a senior on my team, I over announce certain stuff to let the other team members know that WLB is ok.

Um, why?

The other day I had a killer headache. Just couldn’t shake it. I did everything I needed to that was time sensitive, then went AFK. I don’t see any reason to be suspicious of others if they do similarly—we all have days when we’re just not at our best for some reason.

"As an example, they gutted NC DMV."

When did that happen? I didn't see anything saying they were taking anything away. I saw they increased pay by 5%, authorized retention bonus, and are supposed to add about a 5% increase in the number of license workers.

You could just increase pay by $20k and add another 100 workers, but that ignores concerns about operational inefficiency and outdated technology. It will be interesting to see if the privatized pilot increases efficiency or not. I wouldn't hold my breath, but we'll see.

The population of NC has grown about 30% in the last 20 years, but staffing has been capped. Wait times to get a license are ridiculous. https://www.wral.com/consumer/5onyourside/ncdmv-long-waits-d...

The flip side of that complaint is Democrats stuffing government bureaucracies with do-nothing jobs for their buddies. Both sides play in this cesspool. It would be nice if we as a nation could just do the work that needs to be done for the people without all of those games but it never has really been that way.

Citation sorely needed. Take the both sidesism somewhere else.

It's not worth making this point anymore. Bannon et al have been explicit for decades now they want to destroy the federal government. It's ideological, that's it quite simply.

All these discussions about efficiency, even more so the debt given they just blew up the debt to never before seen levels just shows that sincerity is not deserved when talking to Rs.

It is worth making the point: a lot of people simply don’t see it (yet?) for what it is and still support the people doing it.

When did America stop being a globalist in the globalization that they themselves created. And how do you justify iran, hoothis, israel, taiwan with an antiglobalist agenda.
jzb · a month ago
In answer to the first question... there's been an isolationist streak among the right for decades. But in answer to the second, expecting consistency from the American right is a bad idea. They do not care about being consistent, any so-called principles are only applied to others -- not themselves. (And I acknowledge that all humans and all groups have the ability to be hypocritical in some circumstances, but it's far more pronounced in the American right.)
